  3. What lamps to use

Original wooden interior items bring comfort and coziness to the environment. If you won’t surprise anyone with solid wood furniture or carved figures on the shelves, then a floor lamp, chandelier or sconce made of branches or driftwood will definitely attract the attention of guests.

However, wooden products are not cheap, especially original ones. We suggest saving money and creating a lighting fixture with your own hands. In addition, this is a great way to implement bold ideas while spending very little time. To make lamps and sconces you will need standard carpentry tools.

Usability assessment

To understand how good a wooden lamp is, let’s weigh the pros and cons of this unusual decorative item.

Advantages:

  • The environmental friendliness of wood is an important advantage over polymers and other synthetic materials.
  • When heated and in its normal state, the tree emits aromatic substances from resin - ether, which relaxes and heals.
  • Any shape can be created from wood materials - the raw material can be easily processed with carpentry tools.
  • An unusual option for interior decoration. Wooden chandeliers are rarely found in residential buildings and offices.

Flaws:

The disadvantages are reduced by using different impregnations and appropriate preparation of the timber. Therefore, a wooden lamp can be called a useful accessory that will emphasize the style of the room and give it charm.

Preparation of material

Lamps and sconces are made from any wood materials. Boards, branches, driftwood, plywood are used - the choice is determined by the idea. Nevertheless, no matter what the design for the lamp is made from, it is important to properly prepare the lumber:

  • The wood must be dried.
  • The workpieces should be treated with complex impregnations with fire-resistant, insecticidal and antiseptic components.
  • It is worth choosing solid lumber without signs of rotting.

In addition to wood, light bulb sockets, carpentry tools and glue (preferably epoxy) are prepared to make lampshades.

What lamps to use

Since wood is a highly flammable material, you need to be careful when choosing a light source. It is better not to use an incandescent lamp for bedside lamps and lampshades - when burned, it strongly heats both the socket and the wood.

LED lamps and strips are suitable for such homemade products - they emit white light and do not heat up surfaces, and are fireproof. LED strips are ideally combined with wood of any color and texture.

Master class: lamps made from boards

There are countless ideas for making home lamps. We'll tell you how to make a homemade chandelier - you can use it as a basis for creativity.

For manufacturing, you will need beams of any cross-section, for example 100×100 mm or less, depending on the desired dimensions of the finished product, as well as a mirror. We recommend making a drawing of the chandelier in advance, which will reflect the lengths of the sides and the area of the mirror part (it should protrude beyond the internal perimeter in order to rest on the beams).

  1. We make a blank from 4 bars of equal length.
  2. Next, we form a “lock” - cut out a rectangular cup half the thickness. A cup cutter or jigsaw will help with this.
  3. We assemble the structure and glue the parts together.
  4. After this we carry out painting.
  5. We pull the wiring with the socket from the top edge and fix it to the inside with brackets or small nails.
  6. We attach a mirror on top. It will act as a light reflector. We fix it at the corners.
  7. All that remains is to attach a pendant, for example, a chain.

The accessory is ready.

The video shows a version of the manufacture of such a lighting item, the operating principle is the same:

Master class: lampshades and lamps made of plywood

Plywood is a lightweight material that can be easily processed. You can create a variety of products from it. For example, an unusual night light for a children's room or hall. It will look equally good on the terrace of a country house and in a city apartment.

Or this:

For a house-shaped plywood night lamp, take a universal pattern on which you can make any pattern!

Now let's start making:

  1. We transfer the templates prepared for all 4 sides onto a sheet of plywood of any thickness.
  2. We send it for cutting using an electric jigsaw (or a laser machine for the finest detailing of petals and small fragments). You can use it manually, but you will have to tinker with a complex pattern.
  3. Sand the cut edges with sandpaper.
  4. Roofing work is done in the same way. We cut it to size, make a pattern and polish it.
  5. Glue the pieces together. To ensure that the thin sheets hold each other securely, we install bars inside the house in the corners, onto which we glue the walls.
  6. We start the cartridge and fix it on the desired side of the interior. The wire can be inserted into the pattern or a separate hole can be made for it.
  7. We fix the roof and make the bottom. We also glue all the parts onto the corner bars.
  8. We make a suspension or fastening in a convenient way.

The house is ready. A homemade night light or chandelier can be simple with a simple ornament or designer with a complex idea, wall or tabletop. We present a video master class on making a house from several sections.

A plywood lamp can have any appearance. The main thing in working with this material is the need to cut holes for the passage of light. More photos of night lights and lampshades:

To assemble such a lampshade from plywood, you need to cut out a groove lock on each piece. Then the parts can be connected without glue.

A wooden chandelier diffuses light throughout the room. The parts are connected using decorative screws.

Master class: lamps and chandeliers made from branches

Branches are the most accessible material for creativity. You can collect them at any time in a park or in a garden near your home and immediately start creating. The difference between branches and other wooden pieces is that they do not need to be dried. As long as they have moisture in them, they can be bent and created into different shapes. Over time, they will dry out and no longer straighten out.

Before harvesting the branches, you need to decide on the design of the lampshade or chandelier. Will it be weaving or tying thick sticks with rope, will the wood be combined with other products - forging, metal frames, etc. We present several interesting ideas:

A master class will help you make such an interior accessory:

Generalized instructions for creating a lampshade from branches:

It’s easy to make a lampshade from branches; you don’t need any special skills or tools.

Master class: log lamp

An ordinary log or even a snag can act as a blank for a chandelier. The main thing is that the material is dried and neutralized from insects and microflora.

  1. We give the workpiece the required size.
  2. At the points where the cartridges are inserted, we make holes of the same diameter as the hidden part of the electrical device.
  3. We attach the hangers.
  4. We insert the electrics.

You can watch the master class in the video:

An unusually shaped piece of driftwood or a stick can be turned into a masterpiece by adding a simple lampshade to it:

Bottle chandeliers

Combined lamps look unusual, for example, a wooden base and glass bottles as shades.

Glass scatters light and creates shades of different colors. It’s easy to make such a lampshade:

  1. We form holes for bottles in the wooden board. The neck should fit tightly, so we select the diameter as accurately as possible.
  2. We attach a hanger to the top of the boards. The chains by which the structure can be suspended from the ceiling look original.
  3. We prepare the bottles. In order for them to give off light, the bottom must be removed. This can be done by heating the glass with boiling water, then quickly transferring the bottle under running cold water.
  4. We insert the bottles into the holes in the board and pull the electric wire through the neck.

The video shows the process of creating an interesting table lamp.

Hundreds of different night lights are sold on the Internet, some of them are completely ordinary and not at all surprising, others are brighter. You can just buy it, or you can make a night light out of LEDs with your own hands.

Night light of their clothespins

We’ll start with a simple option and make a night light out of wood with our own hands. The great thing about this night light design is that there is almost no need for woodworking tools. We will need:

  1. Wooden clothespins for clothes;
  2. glue;

To assemble the electrical circuit:

  1. Capacitor (we will calculate);
  2. resistors R1 – 1 MOhm, R2 – we will select;
  3. wire cross-section from 0.75 sq. mm;
  4. fork;
  5. LEDs or LED strip.

First you need to disassemble the wooden clothespin; to do this, you need to bend the spring and separate the wooden halves.

From the resulting pieces of wood you need to put together any shape that you like; below you will see different options for such night lights.

All this can be easily connected using a hot glue gun or regular PVA glue.

Depending on your idea, you can make any number of “floors” from these triangles. Here is an example of the implementation of such a night light on a multicolor LED strip.

A tube of suitable diameter was placed in the middle, covered with LED strip. If you don’t want to spend money on an LED strip, power supply, RGB controller, assemble everything yourself. Use a simple and cheap LED night light circuit powered by 220V.

This circuit is called: “LED power supply circuit with a quenching (ballast) capacitor.” There is a detailed article on our website about. The cost of such an assembly is minimal, and often you can find all the necessary components by disassembling several energy-saving lamps.

Resistor R1 is parallel to the capacitor; it has a fairly high resistance and does not affect the operation of the circuit. When the night light is turned off, it discharges the capacitor, protecting you from electric shock. R2 is an optional element; it will help you select the LED current more accurately. I recommend starting its selection from a value of 1 kOhm, measuring the current value of the LEDs and deciding on changing it.

Here is another interesting solution for making a night light using clothespins.

Night light made of wood

You can make a more organic version of a night light out of wood with your own hands. To make it you will need a minimum set of tools:

  • Cutting tool (hacksaw, grinder with wood disc or any other device);
  • drill;
  • a thick drill bit or drill bit with a diameter of at least 20 mm.

To make such a beautiful night light, you need a log, choose the diameter according to your needs. In the rounds, drill a hole in the center with a diameter of at least 20 mm. More is possible, it depends on the light source you will use.

In the center you need to insert a supporting bar, which acts as a frame. Attach wooden washers to it using any available method. You can use the same “PVA” or “Moment Joiner”.

As you may have noticed, the supporting part is flat, this is necessary so that you can place LEDs or a strip on it. Both options will fit here, and the LED option with a quenching capacitor will be more cost-effective.

It's easier to make an LED night light from one separate ring. The diameter of the hole needs to be increased to 70-150mm. Next, use a cutting disc on a drill to make two cuts for the diode strip. Next, use a chisel to clean the recess and glue the LED strip there. Here you can use ready-made solutions for tapes with a power supply.

Night light with LEDs made of plywood

Plywood is a natural material that is easy to process. You can use it to make any type of LED night light. In order to work with plywood you need to have a few tools and materials:

  • Jigsaw and drill;
  • glue, nails;
  • marking materials;

To make such a home zoo, you need to find any template, print it on paper and cut it out along the contour.

I found this template on the Internet by searching for “cat vector”. You will be offered a wide variety of vector images of kittens or any other animals you wish.

Once you have cut the plywood blank, the next step is to place the LED strip on the back. Try to place the light source closer to the center of the figure so that the light output is uniform. Take care to secure the night light.

To achieve the desired illumination, the night light should not be adjacent to the wall. To do this, glue/screw a wooden block to the back of our night light and hang it on any fastener, like these.

By the way, in the same way you can make a metric from plywood for your wife or child. Lately they have been in demand among DIYers.

Here are more sophisticated ideas for layered plywood lampshades for lamps and night lights. Their production is similar, but with the proper dimensions they can use an LED lamp.

Do not use incandescent lamps in wood, plywood or paper lamps. Due to the high heating temperature of the lamps, this can be a fire hazard.

Using an old power supply for a night light

Nowadays, so many mobile phones pass through the hands of each family member that you can easily find a couple of different chargers. You can make an LED night light out of them with your own hands. This circuit will be much better than a capacitor circuit:

  • Ready-made housing with plug for connection to the network;
  • galvanic isolation from the network - there will be no high-voltage potential at the capacitor terminals;
  • stabilized values of output voltage and current.

Underwater rocks

Case study: the manufacturer indicates on the charger body an output voltage of 5V and a current of 1A (may differ). When I made a night light for myself, I calculated the resistors for the LEDs for this voltage. The night light practically stopped shining after 2 nights. The LEDs dimmed, and the lampshade of the night light was always warm...

In addition, I initially, by mistake, soldered in resistors with a value slightly less than the required 100 Ohm. I became interested in why the LEDs were degrading and I measured the voltage. The charger gave out as much as 7 and a penny volts. Naturally, the LEDs were fed with twice the rated current.

Moral: do not believe what is written, but check the voltage and current of the LEDs with a multimeter.

Look at the diagram of an LED night light from a mobile charger.

To correctly assemble the circuit, select resistors that match the voltage of your charger and LEDs, read more. But be careful and do not repeat the mistakes of others, an incorrectly set current will kill the LED.

As a result, you can get a similar LED night light. If desired, you can hide the diodes with a diffuser from a broken LED lamp.

More details on how to make a night light from LEDs and a smartphone charger are described in the video.

Many phones come with chargers with a USB connector. You can buy ready-made LED modules in USB flash drive format and get a simple LED night light. True, you will not get pleasure from designing, developing and assembling a custom night light.

A night light is the simplest and most harmless device that you can make with your own hands. On the other hand, its simplicity and lack of requirements for brightness make it possible to turn a simple and ordinary thing into a real work of art.

At the same time, you can implement many ideas, such as iridescent colors on an RGB strip, or turning on a night light when there is a clap or depending on the light level. Look at the LED acoustic switch diagram.

The circuit is quite interesting to build. As a microphone, a microphone from a mobile phone or computer headset is suitable; common Soviet transistors - KT315G reverse conduction, and KT3107B - direct conduction, can be replaced with any analogues.

Resistor R3 sets the operating point of the transistor and, accordingly, the sensitivity of the circuit. Transistor VT2 is the second stage of the amplifier, and capacitor C2 is electrolytic, pay attention to this.

DIY LED night light

Today the market is filled with all kinds of night lights from Chinese manufacturers. There are mainly three types of night lights.

1) Night lights with incandescent lamps

2) Night lights with gas-discharge (neon, etc.) lamps

3) LED night lights

The first two have a number of disadvantages, but LED night lights are free of all disadvantages, can work for years and consume a small amount of electricity.

But the night light is powered from a 220 Volt household network, so you need a power supply that can power the chain of LEDs used in the night light. Night lights using 2, 4 and 8 LEDs are popular.

Designer LED night lights made of wood

Almost all nightlights use a transformerless power supply circuit; in rare cases, only one limiting resistor can be found inside the nightlight.

The transformerless circuit consists of a capacitor and a diode rectifier; sometimes the capacitor is shunted with a high-resistance resistor, which discharges the capacitance of the capacitor after the night light is turned off.

The output current rating of the circuit depends only on the capacitance of the capacitor, for example, 1 μF of capacitance can provide an output current of 70-75 mA of current at the output of the power supply. This circuit is also used in Chinese LED flashlights to charge the built-in lead-helium battery. Recently, power supplies for alarms and industrial security devices have been assembled using a similar scheme. The unit is quite economical, is not afraid of short circuits at the output, operates stably, and does not overheat even when operating for a very long time under load.

The diodes in the circuit are high-voltage, with a reverse voltage of at least 400 Volts. The common semiconductor diodes of the 1N4007 series, whose reverse voltage is 1000 Volts at a current of 1 Ampere, are excellent.

The capacitor is a film capacitor, with a minimum operating voltage of 250 Volts, if available, 400 is better.

Zener diode - in some circuits it is replaced by a conventional resistor, which provides the desired voltage drop. The zener diode is selected based on the number of LEDs used. In the circuit, all LEDs are connected in series. For example, if 4 LEDs are used, then their rated operating voltage is 4X3.3 Volts, therefore a zener diode is needed for 12-14 Volts. It is advisable to use stabilizers with a power of 1 watt.

Such a night light can work unhindered for hours and even days.

LED night light

Radio engineering for beginners

A. BUTOV, p. Kurba, Yaroslavl region.
Radio, 2003, No. 3

Modern ultra-bright white LEDs allow you to assemble a “night light” - a compact device for soft night room lighting.

HOW TO MAKE A NIGHT LIGHT

Since this design does not contain incandescent lamps, it is not afraid of drops, power surges and other nuances characteristic of devices with incandescent lamps.

Diagram and appearance of the LED "night light"

When the night light is connected to the network (via plug XP1), the supply voltage, the excess of which is extinguished by capacitor C1, is supplied through protective resistor R1 to the diode bridge VD1. The rectified voltage is stabilized by zener diode VD2 and supplied through resistors R3 and R4 to a chain of series-connected LEDs HL1-HL4. When the motor of the variable resistor R3 is positioned to the extreme left in the diagram, they glow most brightly. In this mode, the LEDs carry a current of 25 mA, their brightness exceeds 5500 mCd, and the forward voltage on each LED is 3.2 V.

Since the level of illumination created by four LEDs may be excessive, it is reduced with a variable resistor R3, reducing the current through the LEDs to 1...3 mA. Resistor R2 discharges quenching capacitor C1 after turning off the power.

Resistor R1 is a non-flammable safety resistor, type P1-25. It can be replaced with an imported explosive R1-7 or, as a last resort, a regular metal film MLT-0.5 can be installed. Resistors R2, R4 - MSCH S1-4, S2-23, variable R3 - small-sized, preferably wire PPB-1A or the more common SP-1, SPZ-33, SP4-4. It is also permissible to use an SPZ-4 resistor combined with a switch, both groups of contacts of which are connected in parallel and connected to a break in one of the network wires.

Capacitor - K73-17, K73-24B, K73-16 for an operating voltage of at least 400 V. A special imported capacitor is also suitable, designed to operate in an alternating current circuit at a voltage of 220 V, which can be recognized by the abundance of inscriptions on its body, for example , CPF 250V X2.

Instead of the KTs422G diode bridge, KTs407A, DB104-DB107, RB154-RB157 are suitable. The bridge can be assembled from four diodes, for example, KD105B, KD209A, KD221V, KD247G, 1N4004. With the LEDs indicated in the diagram, it is permissible to replace the KS515A zener diode with a D815Zh, KS518A or two series-connected D814A, KS126L, KS482A, 1N4738A. When using LEDs with a high operating forward voltage or installing more LEDs, the zener diode must have a high stabilization voltage at a current of 25 mA, for example, D816A-D816V. Since film capacitors have a small variation in capacitance, by selecting resistor R4 it will be possible to set the current through the LEDs to 20...22 mA with zero resistance of resistor R3 and a mains voltage of 220 V.

The parts of the night light are mounted in a homemade casing glued together from polystyrene. The plug block for connecting to the network is removed from the faulty molded non-removable plug or network “adapter”. A handle made of insulating material is placed on the shaft of the variable resistor, which needs to be shortened. If there is no need to adjust the brightness, the variable resistor is eliminated.

The night light can be made more impressive and bright if, in addition to the white LEDs, you include super-bright red LEDs in series with them. for example, L1503SRC/F, the brightness of which at a current of 20 mA reaches 4000 mCd.

ATTENTION! The design does not have galvanic isolation from the lighting network, therefore, during its design, installation and operation, safety rules must be observed

lamp using lace.

To make it you will need: some lace fabric, a clean jar, scissors and thread, a battery-powered flashlight.

Step 1. Take a clean and dry jar, wrap it with lace, it should not overlap or protrude beyond the edges of the jar. Cut off any excess.

Step 2. Sew the edges of the lace to create a sleeve. This can be done either using a machine or manually.

Step 3. Place the resulting sleeve onto the jar.

Step 4: Place the flashlight in the jar and screw on the lid.

You can make such a night light with your own hands in a matter of minutes, and its light will bring romance to your interior.

Night light with butterflies

Another option for a romantic dinner is a night light with butterflies.

To make it you will need: wire (about 50 cm), 2 sheets of white paper, a jar, an ordinary flat candle, butterfly stencils.

Unusual night light made from matches on an LED with your own hands

We cut out several butterflies using stencils (6-7 pieces) from white paper. We roll the second sheet into a tube and decorate the edges beautifully (by curly cutting).

Step 2. Glue the butterflies onto the resulting tube in random order, leaving 2 pieces for the next step.

Step 3. Take the wire, wrap it around the can once, and then bend it so that you get a semicircle above the can itself. Using a thread, we tie the remaining 2 butterflies onto the resulting bend.

Step 4. Place a jar inside our tube with butterflies glued on.

Step 5. Place a lit candle in the jar and enjoy the magnificent picture.

Night light for a child

Making a children's night light with your own hands is also quite simple, the main thing is to show your imagination. For those who want to please their baby, the following is a homemade option.

You will need: a round lampshade or glass ball, a flashlight (or better yet, a New Year's garland), a lot of tulle or tulle, glue and patience.

Step 1. Take tulle and cut a lot of circles.

Step 2. Take the lampshade, it should be clean and dry. Next, take one circle of tulle at a time and fold it in the shape of a rose (take it by the middle, lifting the edges up - your rose is ready). Using glue, we fix the tulle on the lampshade, gluing it only with the middle. This way you will get a fluffy ball.

We hide a garland or a flashlight inside the lampshade and show the child beautiful magic. The baby will be delighted and will happily fall asleep in the light of such a night light.

By making a night light with your own hands (photos of the master classes describe the whole process in sufficient detail), you will transform not only the children's room, but also the bedroom.

Fun night light in 5 minutes

For lovers of creativity and simply cheerful people, this option is ideal.

How to make a night light using only available materials is described above. To make this fun craft, you will need not only a glass jar, but also fluorescent paint that glows in the dark. The more colors you use, the more fun it will be, but if you have some imagination, you can get by with the bare minimum.

So, take a can, a brush and paint. We draw everything that comes to mind on the inside of the can. During the day, the paint will accumulate light, and at night you will be able to see what you painted on the can. This view will always delight you, giving you only positive emotions.

DIY night light

The mysterious abyss of the black night sky with myriads of bright stars has attracted humanity since ancient times. It is not surprising that the theme of the starry sky remains relevant today - in clothing and textiles, design and interior design, in jewelry and on dishes. Lamps - starry sky projectors, which create an excellent imitation of the night sky, have become especially popular recently.

They will “take root” equally well in a nursery, creating the twilight that many children need, and in an “adult” bedroom, where they will create a romantic atmosphere. But the most interesting thing is that such an original night light can be made with your own hands from scrap materials. And we offer you a choice of three such methods.

Night light “Starry Sky” from a tin can

It's so simple, but beautiful!

Night light “Starry Sky” made from a jar and foil

Another way to make a night light with your own hands a la a starry sky projector will require the following materials:

Glass jar with a screw-on lid. It is better to choose a jar that is not “pot-bellied”, so that the difference in the diameter of the neck and bottom is smaller

Foil (thick)

Scissors

Lamp or flashlight.

Now let's move on to production:

1. measure the height and diameter of the neck of the jar and cut out a rectangle of the required size from foil. Rolled up into a tube, it will act as a projector grid. When measuring the size of the foil, do not forget that it will need to be pinched, so leave a small margin around the edges

2. Now we make holes in the foil with an awl - randomly or according to constellation patterns (your choice), roll it up into a tube, secure the edges and carefully insert it into the jar

Our improvised “Starry Sky” lamp is ready! It falls a little short, of course, to its Chinese counterpart, but it is “hand-made”!

Night light made of LEDs and jars

DIY Starry Sky night light. Master Class.

You will need:

    Jar with a lid Thick foil Awl Flashlight or lamp Scissors

Using scissors, cut out a rectangle from thick foil that can be used to line the inside of the jar. The edges must meet tightly, so it is better to make a rectangle of foil with a small margin:

Then use an awl to make holes in the foil.

The more holes there are, the more stars there will be in your sky!

We roll the foil rectangle into a tube and fix its edges so that it does not unfold:

We insert the foil into the jar, and place a switched-on lamp or flashlight on the bottom. And close the jar with a lid:

And voila! Night light Starry sky is ready! Turn off the lights and admire what is happening!

A night light is a device that is used not only for illumination at night, but also as a decorative element. It helps create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort in the room. You can find a variety of night lights in lighting stores, but you can also make them yourself. An LED night light can be made from various available materials - music discs, paper, glass, fabric. The most important thing is to select and create an electronic circuit.

Advantages of an LED night light

Decorative LED lamp Moon

It's quite easy to make a night light from LEDs. The scheme does not cause difficulties even for inexperienced people. The advantages of an LED light source include:

  • low power consumption;
  • long service life;
  • availability;
  • variety of application schemes;
  • quality of light;
  • good lighting;
  • no heating;
  • safety.

A homemade night light made from LEDs can be used for illumination, allowing you to navigate in the dark. The device can be installed in any convenient place.

Types of lamps

Autonomous LED luminaires

All LED night lights can be divided into two groups according to the method of power supply. These include:

  • Autonomous. Powered by battery or battery.
  • Stationary. Plugs into an outlet.

Autonomous products can be moved and placed in any convenient place. The disadvantages include the expense of batteries, which need to be changed periodically. A model that receives electricity from an outlet can only be installed near a power point. There is no need to buy consumables for such a lamp.

Night lights with motion sensor

Wood lamp

Devices can be equipped with various sensors that make them easier to use. They do not need to be turned on; they activate independently. It is not recommended to place such night lights in the room, as they can detect any arbitrary movement and turn on. They are usually installed in closets, garages, and hallways. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted to avoid false alarms on pets. The range of action is 3-5 meters.

Night light made of wood

This type of night light is completely safe. The wood is processed in such a way that there is no release of harmful substances when heated. Wooden LED night lights are even installed in children's rooms, as they are durable, environmentally friendly and difficult to break.

Built-in models can be placed in interior items or furniture. Used for decoration. The disadvantages include the fact that over time, the backlight in one place can become boring, and it is difficult to remove the built-in light source.

Necessary materials

LED matrix

To create a night light, you need to purchase LEDs or a matrix of diodes. The quantity is selected depending on personal preference. It is better to buy bright multi-colored LEDs. The current strength of each component should not exceed 20 mA.

You will also need to buy resistors. To create a circuit with a series connection, you need 1 current-limiting resistor. If the circuit is in series, all diodes must be of the same value. When wiring a parallel connection, each LED is assigned its own resistor.

You will also need a semiconductor diode and a plug to connect to the network. The case can be an old disk, a bottle, or other objects made of different materials. You can assemble the case yourself.

The tools required are a plastic plate, screwdrivers, a knife, heat-shrinkable tubing, a soldering iron, and pliers.

The simplest scheme

Night light diagram

When creating an LED night light with your own hands, you will need a powerful 1 W white LED. The circuit is transformerless, stable and does not overheat. To ensure normal operation, you need to select a 250-630 capacitor with a capacity of 1 µF. The LED is soldered through a current-limiting resistor. A diode bridge is assembled from 4 rectifier diodes. The recommended current for each component is 1 A, the reverse voltage is at least 1000 V. An example of such diodes is 1N4007.

The entire circuit is attached to the housing using hot-melt adhesive.

Assembly algorithm

LED night light - fan

First of all, you need to solder a circuit of LEDs, resistors and other components. After soldering, the contact points must be insulated using heat shrink.

Next, the body of the future lamp is assembled. There should be a diagram inside. The body can be made from any available materials. For example, transparent plastic elements from CD boxes are suitable. They are glued together with strong glue, and a disk is placed on the bottom so that the light is reflected from it. The entire structure must be degreased with alcohol. If desired, you can glue the legs to the assembled lamp.

A lamp on a fan is perfect for the bedroom. You need to buy a large fan and attach a soldered circuit to it.

Near the bed you can place an LED night light, made with your own hands in the form of a rug. To make it, you don’t even need to solder - just buy a matrix of LEDs and weave it into the carpet.

Night light starry sky"

Night light starry sky"

This night light imitates the night sky with constellations. To make it you will need a glass jar with a lid, foil, an awl, scissors, an LED flashlight and a tray.

On the foil you need to draw a sky with stars in any order that the master wants. Place the sheet on a flat surface and use an awl to make holes for the stars. The foil is cut to fit the height of the jar. The paper is rolled into a tube and placed in a jar. A flashlight is placed at the bottom of the can. When you turn it on, you can see the glow from the night light on the walls and ceiling.

In the same way, you can make a night light with your own hands from LEDs and a tin can. It needs to be painted, all stickers removed and holes made. A candle, lantern or garland is placed inside.

Night light in the shape of the Moon

You will need an LED strip and 2 transistors. They will regulate the device and turn the board on/off.

To make a night light from plywood with moon-shaped LEDs, you will need a sheet of plywood that is cut into a circle. You need to glue a printed image of the Moon on top. Then you need to drill 2 holes for fastening and pulling wires. The base of the lamp is glued to the plywood. After drying, the LED strip is glued around the perimeter.

Night light from an electric plug or fumigator

Night light made from LED strip and power supply

You will need LEDs, 2 resistors, 2 capacitors, a zener diode, and a heat shrink tube.

The grounding pins are removed from the plug. You also need to remove the clamp and grind off the rim on the LED using a file.

A night light is made from fumigator in a similar way. It must be disassembled, the heating element removed and the LED placed in the free space. The voltage passes through the capacitor. A rectifier bridge is installed at the output, which smoothes out ripples and equalizes the voltage.

You can put a lampshade on the fork, which you can make yourself or purchase in a store.

How to choose a purchased night light

Night lamp for children's room

If it is not possible to make a lamp for your home yourself, you can buy it in a store. The range of products offered is wide, but you need to be able to understand the characteristics.

You should not take too cheap models. They are made from low-quality materials and may be unsafe. Also, you should not take too bright devices with neon colors. They are usually made from harmful materials.

For a children's room, a lamp in the form of a toy, sun, star, fairy-tale character or other original shape is suitable. It is better to take a device made of high-quality plastic and wood. A durable night light made of plexiglass and LEDs is also suitable.

You need to decide in advance where the lamp will be placed. It should fit into the interior and complement it. It is desirable that its design be similar to the style of the rest of the lighting fixtures in the room.

In terms of color, it is better to take a white night light. It will not tire your eyes, and it will fit well into any interior. It can be installed both in the nursery and in the bathroom.

Nature is fraught with many amazing things. A rather interesting phenomenon is the ability of living organisms to emit light. Fireflies, inhabitants of the deep sea, glow... And not so long ago, scientists discovered glowing mushrooms! In this article we will show you how to make an original night light from LEDs with your own hands at home.

What will you need?

Our night light will be made in the form of glowing mushrooms on a log. To do this you will need the following materials:

  • a piece of thick cardboard;
  • paints (preferably gouache);
  • polymer clay;
  • brown crepe paper;
  • battery compartment;
  • two batteries;
  • LEDs;
  • button;
  • connecting wires.

The tools you will need are a soldering iron, a knife, a brush, scissors and a hot glue gun.

Begin…

Let's start with the basis for our future LED night light - a log on which mushrooms will grow. The simplest solution is to make it out of cardboard. To do this you need to make a blank. We take a piece of cardboard and crush it so that later it can easily take the desired shape. We glue the edges of the cardboard with hot glue and carefully bend it. Additionally, you need to cut and glue three internal inserts from a piece of cardboard, which will give the log rigidity.
The base is ready. Inside there will be a compartment for batteries and wires. But to make the blank look more like rotten wood, it needs to be covered with additional pieces of cardboard.
Then we cover the workpiece with PVA glue, after which we paste the log with crepe paper.
The workpiece becomes like rotten wood. All that remains is to paint it to give it a more natural look. For this, a mixture of gouache colors of white, red, yellow and black is used.

After the paint has dried, the workpiece needs to be tinted with a semi-dry brush with a lighter paint.
The rotten log for the night light is ready.

Preparing the electrical part

First, let's prepare the wires. Our homemade LED night light has 5 mushrooms, therefore, five pairs of wires are needed. Cut into approximately 15–20 centimeters and roll in pairs. Then we clean the ends of the wires with a knife.
We solder LEDs to them. For greater connection reliability, the contacts can be placed in a heat-shrinkable tube.

Mushrooms

The easiest way to make mushrooms with your own hands is to mold them from polymer clay. To do this, you will need two types of clay: translucent and phosphorescent. Cut a small amount from each briquette.
Roll out long sausages.
Then we cut and combine strips of translucent and phosphorescent clay. This action must be repeated several times to obtain a long fibrous structure.
Cut 5 pieces from the resulting thick strip - these will be mushroom caps.
And for the legs, roll out the remaining part into a thinner strip and also divide it into 5 parts.
From the remaining cylinders we make mushroom caps and attach them to the legs with LEDs.
We press the wires with soldered LEDs into the legs and roll them into polymer clay.
In order for the mushrooms to harden, they need to be placed in an oven at 110 degrees for 10–15 minutes.
The LED is a semiconductor element, so the polarity of the connection is very important. Before you connect everything, you need to mark which wire needs to be connected to the positive and which to the negative.
We mark the positive wire with a knot.

Assembly of all parts

Using scissors, we make holes in the pieces of wood for the buttons and mushrooms.
We insert mushrooms with wires into the holes and fix them with hot glue.
This must be done carefully so that the glue is not visible.
We insert the button and glue the battery compartment.
We connect together all the wires with knots and all without knots. We connect the negative of the battery compartment to the wires without knots. And we wrap a red wire to the bundle with knots and connect it to the battery compartment through a switch. For reliability, all connections are soldered and insulated.
The original homemade night light is ready.
The entire assembly process can be seen in the video clip.
