Colored plexiglass can be made in two main varieties, these are:
Both of these types of material are manufactured using production technology plastic products using resins, which guarantees a number of distinctive practical characteristics.
A fairly diverse palette of shades and unsurpassed strength, the ability to perform various processing– practically open unlimited possibilities for application of this material. Concerning color range, then simply unlimited possibilities are open here, especially this material is loved and appreciated by interior designers. A wide range of and the variety of choices makes colored plexiglass such a sought-after material.
Colored acrylic is used when performing interior decoration premises, also this includes furniture finishing, all kinds of decoration of shop windows, podiums and trade and exhibition stands. Also, when using colored plexiglass, craftsmen manage to create incredibly beautiful and non-standard models of lamps; do not forget about the numerous souvenir products. The scope of application of this material is quite diverse, you just need to use your imagination and you will be able to create something unusual from this unique material.
This type of acrylic is a uniformly colored material with a light transmittance percentage of 50 units. The most commonly used types are tinted acrylic in smoky, blue and brown shades. This glass is used in car glazing, as well as all kinds of partitions, domes, canopies, furniture countertops, retail store equipment and other. Illuminated partitions made from transparent colored acrylic look especially interesting; they are not only stylish, but also unusual.
This multi-colored acrylic is a light-diffusing sheet that can be made with varying degrees of light transmission, but the surface remains glossy. The percentage of light transmission can range from 20 to 70 units. Matte colored plexiglass evenly disperses light rays. The characteristics of this material allow it to be used in the production of lamps; it produces very beautiful suspended ceilings, floors and podiums, also advertising boxes and much more.
Colored and transparent plexiglass has all the advantages of conventional plexigas, while it has improved aesthetic characteristics. Colored acrylic is characterized by a low specific gravity, while the strength of the material is quite high, which allows it to withstand high mechanical loads. It is worth noting that the color of plexiglass will not change or fade over time. for long years. It is thanks to these characteristics that colored plexiglass is so in demand in many areas of human activity.
Today it is not difficult to purchase plexiglass of a milky color or any other color, but many craftsmen want to repaint ordinary transparent plexiglass themselves in the desired color. If you want to repaint acrylic yourself, you should understand that you can only change a small element.
For painting you will need a special paint, which is made on an alcohol basis with the addition of dye. Alcohol and dye must be mixed in a ratio of 100:0.14. You can choose a stain for these purposes, or try experimenting and mixing various shades. The standard painting procedure is carried out according to the following algorithm:
You can also paint using acrylic sawdust. The main thing is to ensure that the surface is evenly colored.
You will need a price plate. First of all, you will need to prepare a suitable container, it should be glass or enamel, into which you will immerse the part to be painted. The exposure time will determine the desired degree of color saturation; it ranges from a few seconds to 15 minutes. If you don’t know what color you will need, then it’s better to practice on a small piece. If the color is not bright enough, you can repaint it.
In order to cook coloring varnish, you will need sawdust. They are often left behind after cutting plexiglass; you can also make them yourself using a file.
Dissolve sawdust in vinegar essence, adhere to the ratio of 1 to 6, sawdust and essence, respectively. Be careful not to let the solution get on your skin, clothes or various items. When the sawdust is dissolved, add dye, this can be ink from ordinary fountain pens. The finished varnish must be applied to the surface of the element to be painted.
You will need methyl alcohol, dissolve 0.5 g of aniline dye in it. The resulting solution will need to be heated in a so-called water bath. To do this, pour the dye into an enamel container and place it in another container with water, put it on fire. While the dye is boiling, prepare the element to be painted. It also needs to be heated; to do this, lower it into boiling water, then transfer it to a container with dye.
The peculiarity of this method is that the paint penetrates deep into the layers of plexiglass.
Using the algorithms described above, you will be able to paint plexiglass in the desired color at home, after which you can make something from it with your own hands.
Today we will look at how to paint plexiglass at home. After all, the ability to make beautiful things with your own hands always inspires respect. In any interior the place of attraction will be the product self made. This is what you want to look at or touch.
IN Lately a new direction in " hand made» – production of miniatures from plexiglass. This silent name hides amazing material.
Painting this material is not done very often, but sometimes it is necessary. Today we will consider this issue in detail. Also in the video in this article and photos you can see the most difficult moments work.
The price of the material is not high, but when painting you can completely deprive it of its attractiveness. appearance. Although it can be useful for many reasons, it is worth keeping in mind.
So:
Minuses:
Products made from this material look impressive in its natural transparent form. But, if we are talking about plexiglass miniatures, then you simply cannot resist creating an image that is hidden behind a “burqa” of color. The goal can be achieved through the process of priming and painting the material.
Painting plexiglass at home is done subject to certain conditions.
Let's take a closer look at them:
Now let’s look at how to paint plexiglass in detail. There are several options here and we need to choose the most optimal one. Instructions for each of them are given below.
It is carried out using tsaponlak - a nitrocellulose solution, usually black, purple, red and blue shades, but other colors are also possible.
Instructions:
This option is suitable for painting not large surfaces, parts, plexiglass products.
Attention: Includes self-production varnish consisting of organic glass sawdust and vinegar essence (proportion 6:1), the ingredients must be completely dissolved.
As a result, the treated surface becomes more durable, resistant to fading, and easier to polish.
It includes preparing the glass plane; it will need to be treated with gasoline and then wait until it dries completely.
If desired, you can create a unique decor from plexiglass and cover it with multi-colored stains.
You will need:
Attention: If the final result is unsatisfactory, it is better to clean the surface of dyes using a swab soaked in solvent and repeat the painting process.
Depending on your preferences, organic glass products can also be given a white color.
Step-by-step plan for transferring a drawing or inscription onto plexiglass:
You need to immediately decide on the direction of lighting glass products, because thanks to the play of light and shadow, the drawing can visually appear larger and more voluminous.
Although such a creative process does not require extreme effort, you should be patient, and then the result will not leave anyone indifferent. Painting plexiglass is a creative and necessary task.
Deep coloring of organic glass
allows you to obtain a smooth and durable painted surface while maintaining the texture of the material. Coloring is carried out in aqueous-alcoholic solutions of disperse dyes. The process is simple and allows you to get rich shades.
Before painting, the surface of the products must be thoroughly cleaned, otherwise an even color and tone may not be obtained. The surface is wiped with a swab made of soft fabric, soaked in gasoline or alcohol, dry and immerse for 15 minutes in an aqueous solution of detergent. The solution temperature should be within 50-60°C. Then the product is thoroughly rinsed in cold water and immediately transferred to the dye solution, which is prepared as follows: mix 5-15 g of dispersed dye until a homogeneous mass (paste) is formed (when choosing a color, you can use Table 3.1 as a guide), 2-3 g of neutral washing powder (for washing natural silk fabrics) and 20-30 g of alcohol (ethyl, butyl or benzyl) and add hot water to a volume equal to one liter. After thorough mixing, the solution is filtered through a nylon cloth folded in half (a nylon stocking can be used).
One of the conditions for good coloring is to protect the solution from contamination, to continuously stir it during operation, periodic filtration in case of repeated use, and to add alcohol as the solution is consumed. Color saturation depends not only on the temperature of the solution, but also on the dyeing time. To obtain an average color saturation, the dyeing time should be 15-20 minutes.
After dyeing is completed, the product is thoroughly rinsed in cold water and dried. Dyeing should be done in dishes made of materials that are resistant to the dye used (glass, porcelain), otherwise the color may not be rich and the dishes will be damaged. You can also use enamel cookware.
For plexiglass painting you can use several methods.
1.
Tsaponlak is used for painting.First of all, you need to prepare a glass or enamel container of suitable size for immersing the parts. The exposure time in the dye depends on the degree of color saturation you want to achieve. It can range from a few seconds to 15 minutes.
2.
The varnish is made at home. To do this you will need plexiglass filings. You can use sawdust left over from cutting or drilling plexiglass, or you can specially prepare it using a file. Sawdust must be dissolved in vinegar essence in a ratio of 1: 6. In this case, precautions must be taken: the resulting solution should not get on the skin. If this does happen, you should immediately rinse the affected area well with water. Also, you should not allow vinegar essence to get on your clothes and other things - it can ruin them.
A dye should be added to the resulting composition (for these purposes, you can use, for example, a paste taken from the refills of ballpoint pens), after which you can apply it to the surface
Plexiglas. This method not entirely suitable for intensive coloring of large surfaces. It is best used to add color to plexiglass parts and small products made from it.
3. In methyl alcohol (methyl alcohol is poison!) 0.5 g of aniline dye dissolves. Then the resulting solution is brought to a boil in a steam bath. The part to be painted must be prepared while the paint is cooking. It also needs to be heated by briefly immersing it in boiling water. Then the glass is removed and transferred to a container with boiling dye. This method is convenient because the paint forms a surface layer and its particles penetrate the plexiglass.
4. Before painting, the surface of plexiglass should be especially carefully prepared. To do this, the glass is wiped with gasoline and left to dry for some time. Then the sheet is dipped into a detergent solution with an average temperature of about 50 C°. A saturated solution is prepared at the rate of 1 kg of washing powder per 1 liter of water. The glass must be kept in this composition for 10-15 minutes, then rinsed cold water and start painting immediately.
The paint must be pre-formulated by adding a special dispersed dye for acetate silk to benzyl alcohol (5 g of dye is taken per 20 g of alcohol). 2-3 g of regular washing powder is also added to the alcohol solution. Next, the dye is diluted hot water to the desired consistency (1 liter of water is poured into the indicated volume). The prepared glass is immersed in the resulting paint at a temperature of approximately 80 °C. The holding time is approximately 15 minutes. The dye must be stirred periodically while the plexiglass is in it.
5. This method allows you to create multi-colored stains on the surface of plexiglass. It is better to use it in cases where it is necessary to paint the workpiece small size.
It is necessary to prepare nitro paint of several colors. Pour 2-3 tablespoons of the paint whose color will be the background onto a landscape sheet. You need to randomly drip other paints onto the spread base (about 5 drops of two or three different colors).
After this, the album sheet should be bent in an arc, forming a gutter, and the composition should be poured onto the glass. The paint should cover the entire surface. No brush is used here; if there are large drips, the glass should be placed at an angle to remove the excess. Naturally, prepare the work area in advance and lay something under the plexiglass to be painted.
If the result obtained after drying quickly enough does not satisfy you, you need to remove the paint using a swab dipped in solvent and repaint the glass again.
When decorating the interior of a future home, many people give preference minimalist style, in which free space plays an important role and minimal amount furniture. This style most often uses furniture made of plexiglass, as well as various decorative elements from this material. These include chairs, lamps, coffee table, shelves, frames and much more. It happens that during the process of decorating a room, it becomes necessary to paint plexiglass and give it a certain desired shade.
How to paint plexiglass and how to do it? If you need to paint large and voluminous objects, then it is better to entrust this to professionals. If this is a small decorative element, like a lamp, then you can do it yourself.
When painting plexiglass, paint is used, which consists of alcohol and special alcohol-based dyes. It is best to use denatured alcohol for these purposes. The ratio of alcohol and dye should be 100 to 0.08-0.15. Various stains that are used for painting wood are also excellent for painting plexiglass. Dyes previously dissolved in alcohol can also be successfully used.
Depending on the type of dye, different color effects can be achieved. So, in order to obtain a black color, alcohol-soluble nigrosin is used; for red shades, rhodamine, Sudan red or a mixture of chrysoidin and rhodamine are used. For getting orange color Sudan orange dye is used.
