Interior decoration of a wooden house: recommended materials. Interior decoration of a wooden house: technical features Finishing materials for the interior walls of a wooden house

04.11.2019 Radiators

The final stage of construction is the finishing of a wooden house inside, and in this case, photos can help the owners decide on the style of the future home, but you will have to choose the materials yourself, as well as carry out a series of preparatory work. Wood makes special demands on the subsequent finishing, therefore, when carrying out interior work, its properties and characteristics should be taken into account. In addition, do not forget that a wooden house is not only beautiful and warm, but also has a special energy. Its design from the inside can either emphasize unity and harmony with nature, creating an atmosphere of unique comfort, or be ultra-modern, but no less comfortable.

When to do interior work

The interior decoration of a wooden house should be carried out only after the main shrinkage has passed (this applies only to “fresh” log cabins). At this stage, there is an active shrinkage of the tree, the timber or logs change their size down, and the insulation is pressed. If the interior finishing is done before the end of shrinkage, then as a result you can get a curved coating, which, moreover, can fall off and you have to start all over again.

The duration of shrinkage is affected by:

  • House construction type.
  • Material (beam, log, etc.), its initial moisture content.
  • Climatic zone of construction.
  • Construction time.

In particular, a house made of glued laminated timber gives the main shrinkage 3-4 weeks after construction, this is the fastest time. Other types of wooden houses require several months or even years to shrink. On average, finishing inside the house can be started only 10-12 months after the completion of the construction itself.

The interior decoration of a wooden house is the most creative building process, during which you can recreate the design that fantasy requires. Now the construction market offers a lot of finishing materials, among which you can always choose the right one for the price and style. The interior decoration of the dwelling will speak about the taste of the owner, because the way the house is decorated is how its owners are judged.

Preparing for interior trim

Before you start repairing interior walls, you need to learn about some of the features that should be considered when carrying out interior decoration:

Types of interior wall decoration

Wall decoration in a wooden house can be done in various ways. It all depends on the desire and capabilities of the owner himself. First you need to determine the goal that should be achieved as a result of finishing. Options can be quite diverse: from the natural beauty of wood to a modern style made with alternative materials. In practice, there has been a tendency to finish wooden houses inside with progressive materials that completely hide the wood structure. Below we will consider both traditional finishing methods and those that are becoming more and more popular with the owners of log houses.

Carriage board decoration

Lining is a simple and affordable material with which you can finish not only walls, but also floors and ceilings. To create an even coating, you need to worry about the crate in advance. Creating a crate will help hide unnecessary pipes and wires, as well as additionally insulate the walls, if necessary.

The construction market offers customers three types of lining that can be purchased:

  • Ordinary wagon board - simple polished boards that do not have recesses and grooves. This is the cheapest finishing material among those presented. Such a board is fastened with galvanized nails to the crate. The disadvantage of this material is the lack of adhesion of the boards to each other during laying, which can lead to an incorrect and crooked fit to the surface. Also, during installation, chipped boards are not uncommon due to their small thickness.
  • Carriage board of universal type. Such material is more convenient and practical. Due to the fact that the boards have spikes and grooves, they are easy to fit together and this design will no longer be curved. This lining is reliable and practical in finishing.
  • Wagon board Block House. This is a type of lining, very similar to the second option, but on the one hand it imitates a rounded log. It was created in order to create an even more pleasant look for the whole design. The mounting method is the same as for the universal board.

Important! The lining must be treated with an antiseptic and other compounds that increase its service life.

Like any material, the wagon board has its advantages:

  • The design becomes more decorative, the tree gives coziness and comfort in the house.
  • Lining helps to hide communications that are unpleasant to the eye (pipes or defects in the log house itself)
  • This finish helps keep the heat in the room. Even the thinnest lining can make the house warmer without the use of special material.
  • Ease of installation, thanks to which, even with your own hands, you can finish the house completely.

But, despite all the advantages that distinguish lining, it also has several negative sides:

  • The material does not resist fire like any wood, so it must be treated with special compounds. Such processing will increase the cost of finishing.
  • Additional components for such a design greatly increase the cost of finishing with an economical clapboard.

natural finish

The original beauty of the interior design made of wood will help to preserve paint and varnish products. This option is only suitable if the log house itself is sufficiently insulated and treated with special solutions to protect against moisture.

Before finishing, it is necessary to clean the surfaces from dirt and dust and sand them thoroughly. It will not be superfluous to treat with putty and primer.

It is believed that before painting it is not necessary to wait for shrinkage of the house. This assumption is correct, but immediately after construction, painting is also not carried out due to the fact that the moisture present in the wood will come out, forming smudges and bubbles on the surface.

If the construction of the house was carried out using the “paw” method, then the surface is best covered with paint, and if it was built “into the bowl”, then the usual transparent varnish will look great, which will not hide the natural wood pattern.

With the help of paint, you can create accents on certain surfaces or zone a room. Materials for interior wall decoration should be as environmentally friendly as possible, because the safety of the coating is especially important inside the house.

Recently, artistic painting of walls and ceilings has become very popular. This design will bring modern notes to the interior, while not affecting the virgin beauty of the wood pattern.

Important! With such a finish, communications cannot be hidden, so the wiring is placed in the corners of the room, and the pipes are placed in a pre-created frame.

The floors and ceiling with such wall decoration are made with wagon board or parquet.

This type of interior decoration also has its advantages and disadvantages, which you should be aware of:

  • The original style of the wooden frame is preserved.
  • Material costs are much less than alternative finishes.
  • The coating must be renewed every 4 years so that it does not lose its decorative qualities.
  • After shrinkage, log cabins, as a rule, are slightly curved, and finishing with paint or varnish will no longer make it possible to visually adjust this situation.

Usually, a house wooden on the outside already assumes the same finish inside, so there will be no limit to the amazement of guests if, upon entering a wooden log house, they find a modern interior there that has nothing to do with the village. At the moment, it is possible to decorate your house in this way. For the floor, parquet, laminate or carpet is best in this case; tiles may be present in some rooms. For the ceiling, hinged structures or drywall are more often used.

Plasterboard decoration

Drywall is a very convenient material for finishing, which allows you to create any desired design without any problems. In order to attach drywall to the wall, you need to create a frame from a galvanized profile, on which the material is fastened with self-tapping screws.

Important! It is necessary to finish the plasterboard after shrinking the house, as cracks may occur in its process that will spoil the appearance.

Of the advantages of drywall design, one can single out ease of installation, low cost, as well as the ability to hide all unnecessary communications.

Since this material is very fragile, its main drawback will be that it is not at all resistant to mechanical damage. Also, a small negative point will be that the finished drywall construction needs to be ennobled, for example, with wallpaper or putty. The interior decoration of the wooden house in the photo was made with drywall.

Decoration with plastic panels and plaster

Installing plastic panels is as easy as installing drywall. The main and most significant difference from the previous material is the variety of colors and patterns, thanks to which you can decorate the room in various styles by combining materials.

The advantage of this finishing material is that, thanks to laying on the crate, you can hide unnecessary communications. Such a coating can be washed, as the plastic is resistant to moisture.

Plaster is also an interesting option for wall decoration in a wooden house. Due to the fact that now there are decorative types of plaster, it is not necessary to completely level the surface. With the help of such material, you can easily create the necessary relief or even drawings using the sgraffito technique, as shown in the photo below. The coating is very reliable and durable, so it will serve for decades.

Interior ceiling and floor

Facing the floor and ceiling must be in harmony with the decoration of the walls of the house. The most successful options for the floor will be parquet or laminate. This is due to the fact that such a coating retains heat better and is environmentally friendly, which is very important inside the house, because the safety of all its inhabitants depends on it.

Important! Parquet after assembly is covered with paraffin and parquet varnish.

Proper installation of parquet will give you the opportunity to enjoy the perfect floor for many years. The lacquer coating is refreshed every 2 years, due to the fact that it wears out.

It is very serious to take the lining of the ceilings in the house from a bar. Finishing is possible only after complete shrinkage of the house, and this is a period of 2 - 3 years. Otherwise, the ceiling structure will simply deform, which will ruin all subsequent repairs.

For an interior in a modern style, it is enough to mount a stretch ceiling, which will eliminate problems with plastering and other related work. If the interior is designed in a Scandinavian or rustic style, the ceiling beams are not hidden, but rather focus on them. They can be painted in any color that suits the style or stained for the best decorative effect from natural wood.

Important! If there is an attic on the second floor of the house, then the space between the draft and finishing ceilings is laid with insulation and vapor barrier materials.

Finishing a house made of natural wood is a great choice for those who appreciate environmentally friendly building materials. Natural stone, solid wood, natural-based lumber derivatives will always be preferred by people who care about the health of their families. Do-it-yourself aesthetic interior decoration of a wooden house made of wood is not only prestigious, but also practical, reliable and durable.

The choice of interior decoration of the house in favor of wood

Buildings made of wood have been valued for a long time, and today it is back in fashion, which is experiencing a new round of popularity. Log houses, buildings with natural interior decoration, wooden houses made of timber are distinguished by a special atmosphere. They feel that unique aura of closeness to nature, which is not in the "stone jungle" of the metropolis.

Modern construction of individual housing based on environmentally friendly materials is relevant both for families with an average income and for wealthy people who value everything natural. For example, a wooden staircase is organically combined with a similar wall decoration. Sheathing with natural wood or interior decoration of a wooden house with clapboard is an excellent solution for updating the interior in eco-style or for decorating "under the Russian tower".

A house with simple furnishings and wood finishes, as it were, brings residents closer to the origins, teaches them to appreciate the texture and color of materials taken from the surrounding nature. With proper processing, wood becomes fire-resistant and moisture-resistant, and a house with such a finish is warm and comfortable. For example, the interior decoration of a wooden house photo:

The choice of finishing materials occurs at the final stage of installation of the building. Even if initially it was decided to leave the log house without additional internal processing, then there is an opportunity to ennoble the walls in the final work, making them more even and smooth. For reasons of practicality and aesthetics, interior spaces can be designed in different ways:

  • align with drywall under the wallpaper;
  • plaster for whitewashing or painting;
  • sheathe with clapboard or other type of building materials for the interior decoration of a wooden house.

Attention: Wall decoration with wood paneling is also chosen during the next repair. This is especially true on the ground floor of houses, where there is poor waterproofing and ventilation. Dampened corners cannot be dried or hidden by anything, and lining with clapboard and composite boards based on wood and polymers, impregnated with an antifungal compound, gives an excellent result!

If the old building has numerous wall defects, then natural wood-based materials will help to update the look. The choice of variety directly depends on the general condition of the house, since the sagging foundation cannot be weighted with heavy wood panels. Imitation "under the tree" based on synthetic materials looks presentable, although such walls do not have the ability to "breathe".

The choice of interior decoration is often dictated by the main material from which the house is being built. Glulam buildings are built with more strict geometry, their smooth walls are suitable for cladding under plaster. Such a wooden house with plasterboard interiors is pre-paneled, and non-woven wallpaper can be glued on top of the plaster for painting.

Varieties of materials for interior decoration of a wooden house

Building materials for the interior decoration of a wooden house are produced on a natural basis with the addition of polymers, natural and synthetic resins, dyes and chemical impregnation. However, natural high-quality wood after high-tech processing will always be among the favorites of finishing materials. Wood is the most affordable sustainable material and the purest natural material available. With all its apparent simplicity, this eco-material has many options for texture and shades.

There are different types of wood:

  • very light and dark, almost chocolate (wenge wood);
  • practically without a pattern and with a pronounced pattern;
  • saturated reddish and pale shades, etc.

Wood of valuable species is very expensive, it is practically not found in the form of an array in the construction market. But the unique patterns and delightful texture of natural wood are available in the form of veneer and wood wallpaper. In the form of a thin cut, sheets of expensive wood are glued or soldered to more affordable wood panels. In this form, they are used for interior wall decoration in a wooden house - photo:

Wall cladding is carried out:

  • laminated chipboard;
  • laminated plastic with a woodgrain pattern;
  • veneered MDF;
  • clapboard;
  • siding;
  • composite panels.

All these materials belong to the so-called "dry finish", and "wet" processing involves plaster or putty, which must dry before the final decoration. For example, gluing walls with glass wallpaper for painting on a prepared surface.

Attention: If the prices for materials seem high for self-repair of a wooden house and interior decoration, it is better to divide the costs into several stages than to give preference to low-quality materials or low-tech installation.

"Dry" wall repair is an excellent solution for a clean and quick repair, in which there is no need for the family to move out for a while. It is enough to free the room in which the repair or interior decoration of a wooden house from a bar is carried out.

Tip: To protect the wall cladding from rodents, do not leave gaps behind the wooden panels. All free space is filled with mineral wool. At the same time, it will serve as a soundproofing and hygroscopic material to reduce the moisture content of the wood.

"Wet" cladding or plastering walls

Facing and leveling the timber from the inside with drywall is not so often chosen, especially when the log house is new, and significant shrinkage is expected during the first year. After 2-3 years, the main shrinkage of the walls will be almost completed, and you can proceed to the final stage. It is fashionable to complete the construction of a wooden house with plasterboard interior in several ways.

The plaster is applied over the plasterboard when they are already securely fixed. Dry mixes are produced both starting and finishing (decorative). Solution classification:

  • plaster;
  • cement;
  • lime;
  • combined.

The cement-sand mixture is suitable for laying tiles, small lightweight panels or facing stone in rooms with high humidity. This is an entrance hall, a bathroom, a bathroom and a kitchen.

For living rooms (bedroom, nursery, living room, study), plaster and putty based on gypsum or lime-sand mixture are used. Such a starting finish "breathes", it minimizes humidity in a wooden house and prevents condensation. In very dry air, it gives off excess moisture from the walls.

Upon completion of the rough work, they move on to decorative wall cladding, including wall painting or wallpapering for painting - photo:

Step-by-step method of preparing for the decoration of the walls of a wooden house:

  • roughing walls (removal of dirt and organic residues, mold and insects);
  • cracks are caulked with tow (moss, dry algae) to improve heat and vapor barrier;
  • additional impregnation of wood with chemicals against mold, fungi, rodents and pests;
  • sand with sandpaper and treat with a primer on wood;
  • it is advisable to make a trial finish with the selected material in a secluded place, if it is painting or plastering, in order to evaluate the result.

Interior wood finish

The decoration of the internal walls of a wooden building is associated with materials based on natural wood:

  • gusvarblok;
  • lining and eurolining;
  • planken;
  • decking;
  • block house;
  • cylindering;
  • glued timber;
  • decorative wooden wallpaper and veneer;
  • wooden panels or shields;
  • rail and frame shield.

Sometimes the bottom third of the walls are paneled with flooring materials such as parquet or laminate with a spectacular wood decor. The locking system of quick installation and easy wall mounting speeds up the process of completing repairs in the house.

Tip: When buying, specify the shade and batch number so that there are no discrepancies that can be identified during the repair, it is not always possible to purchase exactly the same material!

The same materials that were used in the wall cladding of a wooden house can be used for cladding:

  • multi-level ceiling;
  • built-in wardrobes, niches and shelves;
  • stair space;
  • decorative beams;
  • curly partitions;
  • arches and niches;
  • design and architectural details for the original decor, photo:

Lining was originally used for lining freight cars, hence the strange name. Modern decorative lining made of larch or pine, used for interior decoration of houses, is very different from its "working progenitor". It is equipped with a locking connection, well polished and cut according to the standard. If desired, it can be ordered from more expensive wood. Under the clapboard it is convenient to hide the defects of the old walls, to lay communications behind it.

Planken is a little different from lining, it has a different type of fastening with rounded ends, which provides high ventilation. Decking is otherwise called "terrace board", since it is also successfully used in open outdoor areas. This material is excellent for facing verandas, loggias, balconies.

Glued laminated timber is a durable building material that is not subject to cracking and delamination. They are great not only as a building and finishing material, but also quite acceptable for interior decoration - as ceilings and ceiling beams. It is also used for finishing staircases and covered passages between buildings.

Such material as a furniture board is widely used not only in the production of cabinet and built-in furniture, but also as interior decoration. It looks very aesthetically pleasing in the cladding of walls, stairs, joinery, window sills, countertops. Shields can be painted and varnished.

Warning: When purchasing materials containing wood, do not install immediately after purchase. They must acclimatize in the same room where they will be used. It will take about a week for the wood to “stand up”.

Paint and stain finish

When choosing a type of finish like glulam wall painting, it is important to choose an odorless interior paint. The building materials market offers a wide range of high-quality paints, including eco-paints based on natural resins. You can choose the color of the walls according to the catalog, but it is enough to add the selected pigment to any white or light paint until the desired shade is obtained.

If there is a desire to leave the natural texture of wood, but to make a more saturated shade, then stain is often used for interior decoration of a wooden house with clapboard. At the same time, roughing and sanding must be completed. In this case, the primer is not applied so that the primer penetrates deeply into the wood fibers. A reddish or cherry shade imitates expensive wood. Using stains of different shades on the same wood will create a mosaic pattern or graphic contrast.

Tip: use the finished sketch according to the proposed samples to evaluate the upcoming results. It is desirable to fix the finished drawing or cover it with a protective varnish.

The smooth surface of walls finished with natural wood with a beautiful texture can also be coated with a colorless varnish:

  • matte;
  • semi-matte;
  • glossy.

No less interesting is the artistic painting of the walls, which is available to both professional artists and creative people who want to prove themselves as a designer. Of course, they don’t argue about tastes, but the blurry outline of the master looks better on the tree than the clumsy motives by the inept hand of a beginner. The main thing is not to overdo it when choosing a topic.

The task of how to sheathe the walls in a wooden house inside often arises. Perhaps, only glued beams and rounded logs meet high decorative requirements, and the walls of them do not need interior decoration. In other cases, additional processing is needed, especially since a wooden house may have flaws in the curvature of the walls, and the inner lining using a crate or frame allows them to be compensated.

Sometimes a crate may be needed for sheathing wooden walls.

Features of a wooden house

With all its remarkable qualities, a wooden house has drawbacks that are caused solely by the properties of the wood itself.

Wood is the only basic building material that is combustible. Therefore, the rules for laying internal electrical networks are very strict. Cables or wires can be mounted either in an open way, using non-combustible gaskets or mounting on insulators, or inside metal pipes that reliably locate the wiring from the wooden walls. Therefore, the second method is the only one that allows you to carry out hidden laying of electrical circuits inside the cavities of the frame or in the free space that forms the crate between the main wall and the skin.

Open wiring looks good only in the interior in the style of "retro"

The walls in a wooden house, unlike brick or building blocks, are characterized by significant shrinkage, which is caused by changes in the size of the material itself during the drying process. Of course, for glued laminated timber, it is insignificant, but in other cases it is recommended to start interior decoration after a year.

But even after a year, shrinkage does not end - the walls of the house, although not slower, continue to "decrease" in height.

This factor, plus the susceptibility of wooden structures to changes in air humidity, does not allow "directly" cladding walls with stone or ceramic tiles. Therefore, before finishing the walls in a wooden house inside, it is necessary to prepare an even base that would be stable under any humidity conditions.

The same need arises if they want to use decorative plaster or wallpaper in the interior of a wooden house. Therefore, for such a finish, sheathing of internal walls with sheet materials that are resistant to changes in humidity is used.

wood paneling

In most cases, the interior walls of a wooden house are finished with panels that preserve the aesthetics and breathable properties of wood. These include lining, timber imitation, block house and ordinary edged board.

clapboard

This is the most popular type of wood paneling for interior decoration. And interestingly, the very name "lining" is used only by domestic manufacturers and sellers. Moreover, it was also extended to foreign-made sheathing boards, which, although they differ in the type of profile, have a similar “thorn-to-groove” connection. Therefore, on the market you can find several varieties of wall paneling:

    standard - domestic panel according to GOST 8242-88 with the same tenon length and groove depth (the tenon is not visible after connection), and a chamfer along the long side of the front part with an angle of 30 °;

    calm - the profile is almost identical to the "standard" except for the rounded chamfer;

    eurolining - in the standard version (DIN 68-126) has a beveled chamfer of the front part next to an elongated spike (its size is greater than the depth of the groove) - after connection, a characteristic wide seam is formed;

    soft line - the same profile as eurolining, but with a rounded chamfer;

    finca - visually very similar to "calm", but the rounding has a larger radius, as a result of which the front part of the profile resembles part of an oval, and not a flat surface;

    landhouse - another representative of a lining of foreign origin with the same tenon and groove dimensions as eurolining, but with a decorative relief of the front surface.

Landhouse wagon has an unusual relief

There are other decorative forms of wooden slatted panels. They differ from ordinary ones in a “non-linear” front surface. Sometimes these finishing materials are called wooden wallpaper, but by the way they are connected to each other and fastened to the crate, this is a typical lining.

The most famous among them:

    "wave" and "breeze", which differ from each other in the height and width of the relief profile;

    "brick" with transverse cut grooves imitating vertical masonry joints;

    "house" - a symmetrical volumetric surface resembling a pitched roof.

Lining "house" is no less original than the landhouse

Block house and timber imitation

Another option than to sheathe the walls in a wooden house. In principle, many manufacturers refer these panels to lining with the same principles of installation on the crate, but in a “thicker format”. Both coatings are more often used outside, especially when insulating using the hinged facade technology, but thin samples are also used for interior wall decoration in a wooden house, so as not to disturb the aesthetics of a log house made of timber or rounded logs.

Block house in the interior creates a complete illusion of a log house

The dimensions of the block house and imitation timber are not defined by any standard, so each manufacturer has its own standard line of models.

Usually, a block house with a thickness of 18 to 22 mm is chosen for interior decoration, but sometimes panels with a maximum profile height of 25 mm, which is considered universal, are also used. The same thickness range for imitation timber is 18-22 mm, although there are also thinner samples that coincide in this parameter with lining.

The imitation of the beam and the block house are mounted horizontally, so they usually have a longer length than the lining - up to 6 m. And for greater similarity with their "full-length" counterparts, the width of the profile is also increased.

The preference when choosing thicker than lining, slatted panels is justified by the following advantages:

    high resistance to mechanical stress;

    the best level of thermal insulation (in the form of interior decoration of exterior walls);

    higher sound insulation (when sheathing external walls and interior partitions).

Visually about the block house on the video:

Features of the choice of wood species

Pine wood paneling is the most affordable. This is the most common coniferous wood, easy to process and with fairly high performance properties. Among the shortcomings, one can indicate low hardness and poor resistance to high humidity, but this is not essential for residential heated premises.

Larch wood panels are much more expensive than pine wood panels. Although this breed also belongs to domestic and widespread, high prices in the world market also affect the domestic one. The advantages are higher Brinell hardness and resistance to fungus and mold attack even in high humidity conditions. And this is a better choice than to finish the walls in a wooden house inside, if it is intended for seasonal living.

The Brinell method is one of the most commonly used methods for determining the hardness of a material. Two substances are pressed together, and then the depth of the impression is measured.

Panels made of cedar or oak can be both domestic and foreign production. For example, a block house and lining made of Canadian cedar are among the elite finishing materials. Soft in processing, but durable wood of both species, polished to a shine. It has beautiful shades of color and is resistant to high humidity. Like the finishing materials of other valuable types of wood, the panels are produced in a format for interior cladding only.

Red Canadian cedar is not in vain considered an elite material.

Simple and secure

In addition to lining in all its manifestations, an ordinary edged board is used to decorate the walls of a wooden house. And the frame technology for the construction of internal partitions is a classic way of dividing the internal space into rooms.

There is also a planed board with a quarter (or a quarter board), which is used for "blank" sheathing of planes without gaps between adjacent elements. It is she who is considered the predecessor of modern lining, and therefore, in their price lists, manufacturers sometimes indicate it in the same section with the rest of the slatted panels for wall cladding. But unlike the “thin” lining, it is closer in terms of standards to the edged board, and the most common thicknesses for inner lining can be considered 20 and 25 mm.

The board with a quarter is still relevant today

Other options

In addition to natural wood, there are alternative options than to sheathe wooden walls inside the house.

The most affordable are fiberboard slatted panels laminated to any grade and shade of natural wood. The disadvantage of such panels as a finishing material is their low resistance to mechanical damage and high humidity.

After the introduction of the technology of glued wood into the production of finishing materials, interlocked lining, imitation of timber and a block house appeared on the market. Unlike natural analogues, they do not have wood defects, as well as the concept of "grade B". If there is a knot, it is exclusively “live”.

If you look closely, you can see the joints of adjacent lamellas on the spliced lining

Despite the visually perfect condition, spliced materials have disadvantages. The presence of seams and the heterogeneity of the structure can lead to delamination of the panel over time.

Conclusion

There are enough options for how to beat walls in a wooden house. For finishing, a variety of coatings can be used, the range of which is not much less than when working with walls made of other materials. True, it must be taken into account that in order to finish a wooden house with tiles or wallpaper, you will have to use the standard technology for leveling the walls along the crate or additionally make a frame partition with plasterboard sheathing, moisture-resistant plywood or OSB. The expediency of such a decision is very doubtful, because in this case, in addition to losing some useful volume of the room, all the beauty of the wooden walls will be hidden behind the cladding. Therefore, what exactly to choose should be decided individually in each individual case and it is strongly recommended to consult with specialists who will be able to evaluate all the nuances on the spot.

Building houses from wood will be popular at all times. This material has its own characteristics that must be considered. Wall decoration in a wooden house is carried out after the building has stood up and given the main shrinkage. For glued beams, this time will take several months, for other types of log cabins, you will have to wait at least a year. It all depends on the moisture content of the feedstock, the temperature and humidity conditions and the construction season. If you finish ahead of time, the materials will crack or warp.

In order for the house to be warm, and the finishing material to retain its qualities for a long time, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work.

Caulking of cracks is performed using a chisel.

Six months later, the second stage of warming of all joints of logs or timber is performed. The heat-saving properties of the building will depend on how densely the insulation is laid.

Materials for interior decoration

The wooden house looks beautiful. Sometimes it is enough to sand the surface and coat it with impregnations that emphasize the structure of the wood and protect it from the processes of decay and damage by insects.

During repair work in old buildings, where there is a significant deformation of the walls, grinding alone is not enough, various types of finishes are used.

The properties and characteristics of such materials are presented in the table:

Finishing the walls of a wooden house from natural materials, made from the same type of wood as the walls, will be the best solution. With thermal expansion or contraction, surface deformations will not be noticeable.

Characteristics of wood species

Wooden lining and block house can be made from various types of wood.

The properties of the most commonly used wood species are described in the table:

How to decorate the walls in a wooden house, everyone decides. When choosing the most suitable wall cladding option, it is important to take into account the properties of the finishing material and the degree of shrinkage of the house.

Installation of lining

This is the most popular material that is suitable for interior and exterior decoration. Raw materials of various shapes are made from different types of wood. When choosing impregnations, it is necessary to take into account where the product will be used, inside or outside.

For interior wall decoration in a wooden house, you should not take material thicker than 2 cm, since with an increase in thickness, the load on the walls increases and the cost increases.

The quality of lining and the presence of defects in an area of 1.5 square meters. m.

  • class C may have contrasting spots and stripes on the surface, the standard allows the presence of 2 knots and resin stains, with a cross section of up to 5 cm;
  • class B allows for contrasting spots, 4 knots and 2 resin pockets;
  • class A can have 1 surface crack and 1 knot;
  • extra class has the highest quality, does not allow the presence of defects.

The lining is mounted on a prefabricated frame. Communications are laid in the gaps between the crate and, if necessary, the space under the frame is insulated.

Installation of lining on hidden fasteners-climers.

The lining brought from the store should lie for several days in the room in which it will be installed.

They fasten the planks with the help of hidden fasteners or open fasteners, nailing or screwing self-tapping screws at an angle into the spike so that the next board overlaps the fastener and it is not visible.

To avoid deformation, chamber drying lining is purchased. Wood with a moisture content of more than 8% will gradually dry out. There are gaps between the trim elements. To correct the situation, you will have to shift the entire finish.

Block house installation

Lining block house is mounted on a wooden crate. All wood must be pre-treated against rotting and damage by insects.

  1. Treat boards and wood cuts with antibacterial impregnations.
  2. Mount the frame strictly according to the level.
  3. Panels start to fasten from the bottom. The first board is fixed strictly in a horizontal plane; the general appearance of the finish will depend on its location.
  4. As fasteners, clamps or self-tapping screws are used, located at a distance of 400 mm from each other. Self-tapping screws are drilled at an angle into a spike so that the next bar overlaps the fastener.
  5. At the corners and joints, the block house is interconnected using a special corner and a docking bar. They allow you to hide all the bumps.

The elements are connected using external and internal corners and docking strips.

When finishing a wooden house from the inside, the planks are positioned with a groove upwards so that the fasteners are invisible. For exterior decoration, the board is installed with the groove down so that rainwater does not get in.

Drywall installation

Finish the walls in a wooden house with drywall only when it is necessary to hide significant surface defects. This material completely changes the interior of the room.

Drywall is attached to the crate. Installation is possible only after complete shrinkage of the building, otherwise the gypsum will crack when the base moves.

Installation of battens for plasterboard finishing.

Sometimes a floating frame is mounted, which does not move during shrinkage, which means that the quality of the drywall will not be impaired.

For a new house made of timber, it is not advisable to do such a finish, since it will hide the natural material.

Installation of wall panels

The walls inside the house, lined with panels, look very beautiful. On sale there are many options for different textures and colors, so it will not be difficult to choose a material suitable for the interior of the room.

Walls finished with panels imitating leather or stone will look harmonious in the fireplace area. We sheathe wall panels on a pre-installed crate, it is better to make it floating in order to avoid material deformation.

Features of finishing the bathroom

Most often in the bathroom, in order to sheathe the walls with high quality, a combination of several materials is used. Areas that are prone to splashes are tiled, and the main area is covered with wood.

To protect the walls in the bathroom in a wooden house from mold, a thick plastic film is attached to the surface with a stapler before mounting the frame for finishing.

This technology leads to the greenhouse effect, so you need to provide high-quality ventilation of the room.

Painting

Over time, under the influence of aggressive environmental influences, wood undergoes aging. To protect the surface and extend the service life, the material is painted or varnished.

Paints and antiseptics for wood coating and their characteristics are presented in the table:

Construction of houses

Finishing a house from natural wood is a great choice for those who appreciate environmentally friendly building materials.

Sheathing with natural wood or interior decoration of a wooden house with clapboard is an excellent solution for updating the interior in eco-style or for decorating “under the Russian tower”.

A house with simple furnishings and wood finishes, as it were, brings residents closer to the origins, teaches them to appreciate the texture and color of materials taken from the surrounding nature. With proper processing, wood becomes fire and moisture resistant, and a house with such a finish is warm and comfortable.

  • align with drywall under the wallpaper;
  • plaster for whitewashing or painting;

Wood is the most affordable of sustainable materials and the purest natural material available. With all its apparent simplicity, this eco-material has many options for texture and shades.

There are different types of wood:

  • very light and dark, almost chocolate (wenge wood);
  • practically without a pattern and with a pronounced pattern;

  • laminated chipboard;
  • laminated plastic with a woodgrain pattern;
  • veneered MDF;
  • clapboard;
  • siding;

“Dry” wall repair is an excellent solution for a clean and quick repair, in which there is no need for the family to move out for a while.

The cement-sand mixture is suitable for laying tiles, small lightweight panels or facing stone in rooms with high humidity. This is an entrance hall, a bathroom, a bathroom and a kitchen.

For living rooms (bedroom, nursery, living room, study), plaster and putty based on gypsum or lime-sand mixture are used. Such a starting finish "breathes", it minimizes humidity in a wooden house and prevents condensation. In very dry air, it gives off excess moisture from the walls.

Upon completion of the rough work, they proceed to decorative wall cladding, including wall painting or wallpapering for painting - photo:

Step-by-step method of preparing for the decoration of the walls of a wooden house:

  • roughing walls (removal of dirt and organic residues, mold and insects);
  • cracks are caulked with tow (moss, dry algae) to improve heat and vapor barrier;
  • additional impregnation of wood with chemicals against mold, fungi, rodents and pests;
  • sand with sandpaper and treat with a primer on wood;
  • it is advisable to make a trial finish with the selected material in a secluded place, if it is painting or plastering, in order to evaluate the result.

Interior wood finish

The decoration of the internal walls of a wooden building is associated with materials based on natural wood:

  • gusvarblok;
  • lining and eurolining;
  • planken;
  • decking;
  • block house;
  • cylindering;
  • glued timber;
  • decorative wooden wallpaper and veneer;
  • wooden panels or shields;

  • multi-level ceiling;
  • built-in wardrobes, niches and shelves;
  • stair space;
  • decorative beams;
  • curly partitions;
  • arches and niches;

No less interesting is the artistic painting of the walls, which is available to both professional artists and creative people who want to prove themselves as a designer. Of course, they don’t argue about tastes, but the blurry outline of the master looks better on the tree than the clumsy motives by the inept hand of a beginner. The main thing is not to overdo it when choosing a topic.

It is obvious that interest in suburban housing in general, and in wooden houses in particular, has grown. We can say that wooden houses are experiencing a rebirth. If earlier they bought houses built many years ago, and then remodeled them for themselves, now a lot of houses are built from scratch and it is from wood. And this fact cannot but rejoice. Where, if not in Russia, one wants to see beautiful wooden houses, in which one can immediately guess the famous traditions of Russian architects, and not the senseless and ugly heap of bricks with which we were “littered” in the 90s. Where, if not in Russia, is it nice to see modern and beautiful houses made of logs - ordinary and rounded, as well as from timber, which have preserved traditions and are made using new technologies.

Finishing a wooden house inside

Observers are interested in seeing the external beauty of a wooden house, and their owners also want to see the inner beauty of their homes. And at the same time, you don’t want to give up the benefits of civilization, and why? Therefore, the decoration of a wooden house inside is a complex and multi-level process, which is designed to become a kind of bridge in time. A bridge between the centuries-old folk traditions and the modern benefits of civilizations. In this case, neither one nor the other side should be infringed. Is it possible? Practice shows that yes!

Requirements for the interior decoration of a wooden house

Wood is a unique natural material that will never be surpassed by any artificial one, which is trying to give the properties of what Mother Nature has created. It is not for nothing that so many floor and wall coverings are made “under the tree”. Wood-look laminate, wood-look MDF panels, wood-look ceramic tiles and many other things made for this material. Why is this being done? Is it really impossible to just apply this very tree and do nothing at all. Yes, you certainly may! A person will always build wooden houses, but one must understand that in addition to the obvious advantages, wooden houses also have weaknesses.

The fact is that not only we people love a tree. He is also loved by other inhabitants of our planet, who perceive him as food or arranging a home in him. We cannot but take into account their needs, so we have to take this into account. For this, certain barriers are made in the form of chemicals that will repel unwanted living creatures. And measures for the biological protection of a wooden house are made precisely at the stage of interior decoration.

This house was not protected, than the insects took advantage

The tree loves another of the most beautiful and powerful elements of our world - the element of Fire. And there is no escape from this either. We, as humans, cannot force Fire to stop loving a tree. We can only take measures to ensure that there are no conditions for its uncontrolled occurrence in our house. That is, we can also “agree” with Fire if we take certain measures. The first measure is to reduce the likelihood of its development, and the second is that even when it appears, you need to resist to the last, you need to prevent it from burning unhindered. Fire protection measures are also carried out at the stage of interior decoration of a wooden house.

The model of the house on the left was treated with flame retardants, but not on the right. This experience should be shown to all owners of wooden houses

A modern wooden house is very different from its "remote ancestors", where the only engineering systems were a stove and lamps. The power supply of housing in our time is very large. This includes electrical wiring, a heating system, a water supply system, a sewerage system, computer networks, a telephone, video surveillance, and television. All these engineering systems require a place for their placement, they must be calculated and made in such a way as to perform their functions and be safe for the house and the people living in it. And all these activities are also done at the stage of interior decoration of a wooden house.

If earlier wood was the most common and affordable building material, now it has become an elite one and building a wooden house is far from a cheap pleasure. For all the undoubted advantages in the form of environmental friendliness, hygiene, aesthetics, you have to pay a lot of money. And, of course, when decorating a wooden house inside, only those materials should be used that will only emphasize all its advantages.

Taking into account all of the above, you can present a set of requirements for the interior decoration of a wooden house:

  • Firstly, the interior decoration of a wooden house should include measures for biosecurity and fire protection of the house. This is done with the help of special compounds, which, in addition to the protective function, can also perform a decorative one.
  • Secondly, a feature of wooden houses is that it is impossible to ditch walls or make concrete screeds in them, as in stone houses. It turns out that all engineering communications have to be hidden behind the interior decoration.
  • Thirdly, at the stage of finishing a wooden house, walls are also caulked and additional insulation, if required.
  • And finally, when decorating a wooden house, natural materials should be used inside for the most part, for obvious reasons. Very often it is justified not to cover the walls or ceiling with anything at all, but to leave them open, having previously treated them with protective and decorative compounds.

Finishing a wooden house inside

A feature of wooden houses is that they shrink, and this process can continue for several years. This cannot be ignored when interior decoration, so it is done in stages. Let's call these steps:

  • Treatment with bioprotective and flame retardant compositions.
  • Caulking (caulking) of walls.
  • Laying of engineering communications.
  • Interior wall decoration.
  • Ceiling arrangement.
  • Floor covering flooring.
  • Staining and painting.

Treatment of a wooden house with antiseptics and fire retardants

As mentioned earlier, wood needs protection both from adverse environmental factors and from various representatives of the world of plants, fungi and animals. Of natural influences, wood least of all loves the effects of ultraviolet rays, which are present in the solar spectrum and destroy lignin, a compound that is the main one in the structure of woody wood cells. This is what determines the ability of wood to withstand static and dynamic loads. When it is destroyed, we can observe how the surface of logs or timber becomes dry, rough and loses its natural color.

Logs that have lost their natural color under sunlight

The most terrible for wood is a fungal infection, and it can be wood-staining or wood-destroying. If the first only creates spots on the surface, but does not affect the physicochemical properties, then the second leads to the destruction of the structure. This process is known to us as putrefaction. And if someone claims that it is possible only at high humidity, then he will be wrong, since already at a level of 18-20%, destructive fungi can develop quite successfully. Initial moisture and lack of air exchange will only contribute to their growth, since further moisture will be obtained from decay products.

Fungal infections can also occur in new homes

Some fungi are able to infect a tree only during its lifetime, while others, more dangerous for us, develop already in felled trees. Therefore, in good industries, wood is immediately protected in order to provide protection during storage, transportation and construction. But such protection is short-lived and lasts from 2 to 6 months, which, in principle, is enough for construction. But then you should apply the composition of a longer action. What should you pay attention to when choosing an antiseptic composition.

  • Firstly, the duration of the composition should be taken into account, the longer it is, the better, but also more expensive.
  • Secondly, each composition has its own purpose: for external or internal processing, special compositions for baths, for terraces and railings, for processing the ends of logs, etc.
  • Thirdly, it is necessary to take into account the composition of the antiseptic. Water-based materials are preferred.
  • Fourthly, it is necessary to take into account the influence of the composition on the human and animal organisms. Some products are strictly not recommended for indoor use.
  • Fifthly, some protective compounds are recommended to be used together with protective coatings: wear-resistant varnishes or paints.
  • Sixthly, it is necessary to take into account the antiseptic consumption per 1 square meter of the treated area and the number of necessary layers.
  • And, finally, it is advisable to get acquainted with the experience of using a specific composition, and not read it on the manufacturer's website or on a thematic forum, but personally verify the effectiveness of the example of a specific treated structure. So you can be sure of the optimal ratio of price and quality.

Let us give a brief overview of some of the most common antiseptics in Russia produced by Senezh Preparations, which are known under the Senezh trademark. These drugs have proven themselves well in Russian conditions.

Interior decoration of a wooden house - the right approach is important

The interior decoration of a residential building built of wood is the most important stage in its arrangement. This issue must be approached as responsibly as possible. After all, the comfort and durability of the house depends on the quality of the finishing measures.

Natural wood is a building material that never wanes in popularity. Residential buildings made of it are characterized by a unique environmental friendliness and a special aura. In them, a person feels really comfortable, especially when the interior decoration of an old or new wooden house is carried out in accordance with all the rules of building science. The latter are not so difficult.

First of all, you need to take into account the following: the arrangement of the log house inside is carried out strictly after its shrinkage (if we are talking about a new building). As a rule, finishing work begins 1-1.5 years after the construction of the house. Note that wild log buildings take longer to shrink, since such wood initially has a high moisture content. Buildings made of round logs can be finished 10 months after their construction, and houses made of glued beams can be finished in a month and a half.

For interior decoration of residential buildings made of wood, it is desirable to use natural materials. Of course, modern facing products have many advantages. But still, natural materials are better combined with wooden structures.

Of great importance is the creation of competent vapor and thermal insulation. Everything is simple here. When arranging steam protection, we adhere to the following principle - each subsequent facing layer laid towards the street must be characterized by a higher vapor transmission potential than the previous one. If this rule is not followed, the house will be damp, which will lead to rotting of wood, the formation of fungus and mold. Nuance. Warming is required only for old buildings, the walls of which have dilapidated and have lost their natural thermal insulation capabilities. New log cabins do not need additional protection from the cold.

Finishing of buildings of interest to us is carried out strictly after the installation of all planned engineering communications. It is performed sequentially. First we caulk the gaps on the walls (from the inside). Then we sheathe the walls, perform ceiling work, install the coating on the floor. The final stage of work is the staining of finishing products and their coloring. Next, we will talk about all these stages in more detail.

We begin the work with the treatment with an antiseptic solution of all, without exception, surfaces made of wood, elements of engineering networks. The protective composition will protect the tree from premature aging and destruction, reduce the risk of mold, the appearance of larvae. After that, we proceed to caulking holes and cracks in the walls. The procedure is laborious, but not difficult. It does not require special knowledge. We fill the gaps in the walls from the inside of the house with any suitable material. It can be natural moss, hemp, felt, tow. We carry out caulking from the bottom up, and immediately along all the walls.

In the case when the log house was built recently, and its walls look beautiful, there is no point in sheathing them with additional materials. It would be much more reasonable to emphasize the natural attractiveness of wood. To do this, it is enough to grind the wall surfaces, and then tint them. As a result, we get an ethnic-style finish. If this option does not suit us, for wall cladding in a wooden private house you can use:

  • lining;
  • block house;
  • Wall panels;
  • MDF (wood fiber sheets), drywall.

Clapboard trim is the most affordable way to decorate walls from the inside. It is he who is used by home craftsmen most often. A type of lining is a block house. It is a product that imitates natural logs. The installation of a block house and lining is carried out according to the same principle. A little later, we will consider in detail the technology of mounting these materials. Gypsum boards and fibreboards for sheathing wooden dwellings are used very rarely. They negate the natural beauty of wood. Make the house look like a standard city apartment.

And the block house, and lining, and other products are mounted on a pre-made crate (framework). Installation of facing materials directly on a wooden wall is not recommended. And that's why. The crate performs several important functions at once. First, there is some free space between it and the wall. It allows the circulation of (natural) air, thereby guaranteeing an optimal indoor climate. Secondly, behind the crate, you can lay a layer of thermal insulation and various communications, from electrical wiring to pipes.

We make the frame from metal profiles or from well-dried timber.

The crate should not closely adjoin the ceiling surface and the floor. Experts advise to deviate from the indicated bases by 2–3 cm. We mount the guides for the crate in increments of 50–60 cm. We fix them to the walls with self-tapping screws. Work on creating a frame takes a minimum of time. At the same time, they allow us to obtain a perfectly aligned base on which any cladding can be installed.

Clapboard and block house, as noted, are often used for interior decoration of timber dwellings. Let's see how to work with such materials, remembering that they are mounted according to the same principle. To begin with, we will choose the right lining. We will need thin products, optimally - 15-20 mm. They are suitable for cladding both walls and ceilings. They can be mounted at a certain angle, both vertically and horizontally. If desired, you can combine all of these methods of installing facing products to get an original finish - a full-fledged decorative panel. True, not every craftsman can achieve such a result with his own hands.

Fastening the lining to a wooden base or frame is carried out in three ways. The first involves fixing the finishing material with the help of finishing nails with small caps or without them at all. Subsequently, the upper parts of the hardware are puttied and treated with sandpaper. This type of fastener is practically not used today. It was replaced by the so-called hidden mounting technologies. In such cases, very thin self-tapping screws or nails driven into the groove or spike of the lining at a certain angle, as well as kleimers, act as fasteners in such cases. Such details are practically invisible on the finished surface. But working with them requires the utmost care. One careless movement, and the front surface of the block house (lining) will be damaged.

Sheets of drywall to the crate are fixed with self-tapping screws of small thickness. But the fastening of most modern wall panels made of gypsum, plastic, bamboo, veneered and laminated MDF is carried out according to the groove-thorn system. The latter guarantees a flawless surface - smooth, beautiful, with a complete absence of noticeable seams and joints. Some decorative panels (plastic, gypsum), in addition, can be glued to the base, if the frame is made of plasterboard or plywood sheets.

Let's say a few words about the ceiling lining. It can be produced by materials already described by us. The principle of their installation will be the same. Important! It is better not to use a wooden wagon for arranging ceilings in bathrooms and kitchens. It is more reasonable to decorate these rooms with tension structures that are not afraid of high humidity. If the ceiling surface has an attractive appearance, you should not spoil it with clapboard, drywall or decorative panels. In such a case, it is better to carefully sand each log on the ceiling, treat it with an antiseptic and flame retardant. And then cover the surface with a colorless varnish. The amount of finishing work will increase. But on the other hand, we will be able to admire and admire the natural beauty of the wood above our heads every day.

Floor coverings in wooden houses are equipped without any problems. We take into account that in such buildings the floors are made on logs. Therefore, solid board, parquet, linoleum, carpet, laminate, painted or varnished wood panels can be used as a finish. The main thing is that the flooring is in harmony with the wood, as well as with the rest of the elements of the interior being created. Then we can achieve the perfect home decor.

The process of arranging floors in wooden houses is as follows:

  1. 1. We build a rough bottom base.
  2. 2. We install insulation material and waterproofing between the lags.
  3. 3. We install the boards of the rough base (the upper part of the structure).
  4. 4. We lay the finishing finishing material.

If we lay a massive board on the floor, we choose products from cedar or larch. They have a chic appearance and have a long service life. Hardwood and cedar plank floors last for decades. They require regular, but very simple maintenance, which eliminates the possibility of premature destruction. Massive boards can be mounted directly on the subfloor. The scheme of work will be as follows:

  1. 1. We cut off the spike at the first facing product. We install it to the wall.
  2. 2. Between the wall and the first board we mount thin (up to 25 mm) gaskets. They will need to be removed after the completion of the floor arrangement.
  3. 3. We drill holes in the rough base. We fix the board in them in a secret, using self-tapping screws.
  4. 4. We connect the second massive product with the first (thorn-groove). We knock it over the entire length with a mallet. We attach to the lags with a self-tapping screw.
  5. 5. Similarly, we lay the rest of the boards.
  6. 6. We grind the resulting coating. We open it with varnish.
  7. 7. We mount skirting boards around the perimeter of the room.

Solid wood floors should be revarnished every two years. The procedure is easy and does not require excessive costs.

If you plan to lay a parquet board, the complexity of the work will increase. The principle of installation of such a coating is similar to the installation of massive products (the same tenon-groove system). But in such cases, we need to achieve maximum evenness of the floor base. In addition, under the parquet you will need to make a special substrate. It is made from sheets of plywood (necessarily moisture resistant), which are mounted on a subfloor. We carry out their laying in a run, we fix it with self-tapping screws. After that, we proceed to the installation of parquet. We lay the coating one plank at a time, attaching each of them to the substrate. Parquet floors can be fixed with hardware. But it is better to use glue. We sand the parquet board after installation and varnish it.

It is also necessary to equip the plywood substrate in cases where carpet or linoleum is used as a coating. Without a flat surface, it will not be possible to lay them qualitatively. The very process of laying such materials, I think, will not cause difficulties for anyone. Ceramic tiles are used for flooring in wooden dwellings very rarely. There are several reasons for this:

  1. 1. Wood under the tile practically does not breathe. This causes the decay of natural material and its early destruction.
  2. 2. It makes no sense to cover warm wood with cold tiles.
  3. 3. The static nature of wooden bases is low. And for laying tiles, the most stable base surface is required.

If all this does not scare us, we can mount ceramic tiles as a finish on the floor. But first we level the base by pouring a concrete screed or laying cement-bonded or moisture-resistant gypsum plasterboard (gypsum fiber) boards.

Finishing a wooden house inside. Photos of original interiors

A rather important stage of construction is the finishing of a wooden house inside. Photos of finished interiors, presented in large numbers in any information publications, amaze with their splendor and originality. Not only the beauty, but also the longevity of the house depends on the high-quality interior decoration of houses made of wood. Observing all the rules and subtleties - such serious work can be easily handled on your own without the involvement of craftsmen.

Many owners of wooden buildings believe that it is necessary to follow all modern trends and use modern building technologies for interior decoration. In this case, all the beauty of wood is hidden under layers of drywall, putties and other materials. This approach leads not only to damage to the whole house, but also to the fact that it will become impossible to enjoy the beauty of the tree.
