The quality of each game is known by comparison only while participating in it. If you compare Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3, you can see that they belong to the same genre and in the same weight class. They saw the light almost simultaneously, which explains their similarity. Not every player is happy with the prospect of spending their time on something that is already familiar; true fans are in an active search for something more significant, which gives the brain work, makes them think and look for extraordinary techniques. They are not interested in meaningless games in which creepy mutants do nasty things at every turn and try to destroy innocent simpletons.

Imitating cruel monsters, the flora and fauna of a rare resource refused to live in peace, performing their usual functions, they also decided to protect their space and life with the help of teeth, claws, appendages and tentacles. People hid in horror wherever they could, and only one hero decided to save the world from destruction. He craves dangerous adventures, for the sake of which he began to destroy dangerous evil monsters, in between helping everyone who needs it.

In such a situation, the player has no time to look at any small inscriptions, since the plot completely captures him, he is immersed in the process of destroying dangerous characters. He has no time to pay attention to such little things as the checkbox next to the “Not distracting plot” item or to understand the problem that a farmer’s cow has.

What else can Diablo 3 offer besides the simple mechanics of blocking the enemy, a couple of classes, a huge amount of gear and various gadgets. Compared to it, Torchlight 2 also does not require a high level of intelligence. It is similar to Diablo 3, but has some differences. Its gameplay is based on a standard scheme: choosing a class, destroying enemies, raising the level, capturing a big city, receiving a quest, again destroying all those who come along, collecting gear, raising the next level, passing the level and, finally, reading the credits, which is absolutely not Necessarily.

Such games easily capture the attention of novice players, since they have simple actions, do not force you to think too much, do not tire you, but can be thoroughly addictive. The new Torchlight 2 has reduced the level of distractions, such as a huge number of bottles with “fire water”, piles of gear, rough enemy interfaces, which often irritate beginners, distracting them from the main action. A new feature has appeared in Torchlight: the selected character can provide such a service as delivering a couple of bottles of potion, assisting in a fierce battle, and then leaving, taking all the gear with him, thereby clearing space for new exploits.

Torchlight also wins in stylistic terms, as it has some inconsistencies in its features, it contrasts cartoon graphics with harsh gloom. The graphics are drawn in light, pastel colors, against which the gloom of the characters is clearly visible, which arouses the interest of players. There are also countless interesting and dangerous locations. This could be a mysterious forest, stormy rivers with dangerous rapids, underground caves with moving slabs, dangerous ceilings, shaky walkways and many other unexpected traps.

Torchlight is recognized by players as one of the best team games of recent times, because, despite its simplicity, it does not contain any shortcomings that distract attention from the main process, which causes a feeling of pleasant fatigue, satisfaction and gratitude for a pleasant time spent. Participants are given a topic to discuss each level and how to overcome it, which is important in a team. Experienced gamers treat such “twin little things” with contempt, but for novice players of Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3 it is obvious that they have differences that create lightness and simplicity. And for those who chose them, we can only wish one thing: an enjoyable game!

About a game like Diablo, every gamer knows. This action rpg became the prototype of so many projects, both singles and MMO. Especially, of course, MMOs - the gameplay of almost every second browser is made in the style of Diablo. And almost any Korean RPG also largely copies the gameplay of The Great and the Terrible. True, in our TOP 10 there will be mainly single-player games, because Diablo is, first of all, a single-player game, albeit with a good multiplayer component. But Diablo himself will not be on our list, since this game is already the best.

But, before we move on to our TOP 10, let's figure out what the main features are inherent in games of this type. The correct name of the genre, by the way, is hack-and-slash (“hack and slash”, that’s roughly how it translates). So, we control one character (there may be assistants, but there is only one main character), the view is in an isometric projection (top view), the emphasis is on killing monsters and long walks through various areas inhabited by these same monsters. Completing quests, dialogues and so-called roleplaying are usually secondary here. That's all the main characteristics of this group of games. Well, now that we have figured out what criteria are used to evaluate “ Diablo-like", let's move on to our list.

10.Nox

One of the funniest toys similar to Diablo. An old project, which, nevertheless, is worth checking out for every fan of the genre. Good humor, three classes, each with their own features, interesting quests and plot. The main villain of the game (a very pretty and powerful sorceress) makes a mistake when casting a spell, and accidentally summons... our character into her world. From our own earthly world. And to return back we need to defeat her. In general, a funny and not boring adventure that is recommended for everyone who is not afraid of old games.

9.Titan Quest

An open world game inspired by various ancient myths. Here are the legends of Ancient Greece (where would we be without them), and various elements from Egyptian mythology, and tales of the East (Ancient Sumerians, China and many others). There is no specific character class here - we simply develop our hero by pumping up this or that skill branch. Make yourself the one you see fit - a mage, a warrior, a thief, an archer, or even a generalist who combines several classes. The game has many advantages - an open world, a great atmosphere of ancient myths and a good plot. By the way, news for owners of mobile devices – the game will be released on iOS and Android in the very near future.

8. Harbinger (Harbinger)

The project is unusual due to its world. The point is that this sci-fi(science fiction) - the game takes place on a huge spaceship, which has been flying through space for many years (although, judging by the game, more likely for centuries). This ship is called Harbinger. We have three classes to choose from, each with their own special abilities, equipment and playstyle. The gameplay here is very familiar - the local weirdos, of course, are not fantasy (as in most games a la Diablo), but they chop in the same way. And the plot is not bad. Overall, the game is worth checking out.

7. Revenant

An unusual and very dark game. Our main character is a resurrected warrior of antiquity, who was called to solve some... problems of the local ruler. The usual problems - the next Great Evil wakes up and the like in the same spirit. But, as the plot progresses, it turns out that not everything is so simple, and the main character, whose memory has been lost after the resurrection, begins to remember that he was once directly connected with this evil. Once upon a time - this is in the past, centuries before the events of the game. The gameplay is distinguished by its unusual and extremely interesting fencing system, and the plot is ambiguous and is fully revealed only at the very end of the game.

6. Torchlight

Another project like “Diablo, but only with humor.” Funny drawing, humorous plot and, in general, a lot of so-called banter. The style of the game is not purely fantasy - there is also everyone’s favorite steampunk. There are three classes here, and each has its own methods of exterminating enemies. The quality of the project is very high, because it was made by the same people who participated in the creation of the first two parts of Diablo. By the way, there is also a second part of the game, which is no worse than the first. We also recommend going through it.

5. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

In this game we will play as the descendant of the famous hunter of evil spirits. Our character happily engages in the family craft, very successfully exterminating various otherworldly horrors throughout Europe. His companion is the ghostly Lady Katarina, who greatly enlivens the game. Despite the fact that sometimes you regret that she is already dead - you want to kill her again for some of her sarcastic comments. In general, the plot in the game is made in the spirit of classic Gothic and, frankly, is simply gorgeous. The project, of course, is not without its shortcomings, but it’s definitely worth playing. By the way, the developers promised a trilogy, so we are waiting for a continuation.

4.Sacred

Not a bad game with an open world, several very interesting characters and a not bad plot. Each hero has his own story, his own equipment and skills, as well as his own unique gameplay. For example, a vampire can play either as a classic melee warrior, or as... a vampire. That is, something like a dark magician with his own special abilities. But the elf is a typical archer, whose main task is to keep enemies away from her. The game also has a second and third part, but the first one can be called the most successful.

3. Dungeon Siege

Yes, the same one Dungeon Siege. One of the first games to truly develop the concept of Diablo. Leveling system in style TES(what we use is what develops), many interesting partners (you can play alone, but putting together a squad is much more interesting) and a beautiful, open world. The basis of the gameplay remains, as always, the destruction of various monsters. It’s worth talking about the beauty of the world separately - at the time of release Dungeon Siege I was amazed by its graphics, and even now you can appreciate the amount of work that designers and programmers did. By the way, the game also has a second and third part, which are also quite good. Do not miss.

2. Divine Divinity

The first game in the famous series Divinity, ancestor of everyone's favorite Divinity: Original Sin. At first glance, this is the same Diablo. Familiar gameplay with slashing monsters, familiar fantasy world, three classes of characters. But once you take a closer look, you realize that not everything is so simple. Many quests are made in the style of the best classic RPGs, where the ability to find non-standard solutions and convince other characters is important; there are everyone’s favorite “moral choices” (many years before Mass Effect and other modern RPGs), and implemented at the highest level. Each class can be upgraded the way you want (that is, you can choose your own skills). And the plot in the game is simply great. All in all, this is a must-know classic.

1.Path of Exile

And first on our list will be this wonderful MMO. A very unusual project that continues to develop and is very popular around the world. A worthwhile plot, very nice graphics, and a truly original skill tree and exchange system. There are several hundred passive skills in the game (!), and there are more than one or two dozen upgrade options for each class. And active, combat skills are a kind of stones that are knocked out of opponents or bought from merchants. And trade here occurs exclusively on the barter principle. Namely, there is no separate currency here (like gold coins or something else like that) - we are objects for... other objects. Basically, local trade is something like the Horadric Cube in Diablo II. If you are already interested in the game Path of Exile, then know that this is not all of its advantages. And it's absolutely free, so download it now.

The second part of Torchlight, like the first, completely plays on the Diablo field, and last time the game was cheaper and smaller, of course, with all the ensuing consequences. This time the developers have the strength and additional finances to make the game even better.

So, there’s more of everything: not three classes, but four, not two pets, but eight. Events no longer revolve around the city of Torchlight, your character is sent on a journey through forests, meadows, deserts and swamps, along the way there are several cities where there is everything you need, including wells in which there is an endless supply of food for your pet and the hope of catching gold fish. The cities are full of corners where dozens of chests, thousands of enemies and dungeon passages are hidden. The brutally simple quests force you to run through large maze-like locations, through constant corridors, rises, corners, abandoned buildings and the like.

New levels are taken very quickly, there are only 100 of them, there is a large number and variety of monsters, there are also enough bosses to please the most demanding player. Usually the bosses are simply very fat, but there are surprisingly interesting ones, like Jin (for example), who disappears the second before dying and returns completely healthy. There is a lot of loot, gold flows like fountains, so you quickly stop filling up your inventory with everything.

The game is, without a doubt, very comfortable and friendly, it has a good role-playing system, as for its genre, and yet it is a clone, secondary in almost everything. The developers have lost their sense of style, the first part was cartoonish and cheerful, but in the second part, our heroine became more detailed and darker, at the same time more banal and boring.

In all other respects, Torchlight 2 is for those who didn’t like the changes in Diablo 3.

Result:

  • Casual action game in hack and slash style.
  • Lots of content for such a low price.
  • Four unique classes and many pets.
  • A good, although not perfect, alternative to Diablo 3.

Video:

Blizzard is one of the few companies that DO NOT make bad games. Absolutely. Each project she has released is a whole world filled with amazing adventures, with its own exciting story and bright, often contradictory and ambiguous characters.

And yet, among these, without exaggeration, masterpieces, there is one game that is especially dear to the heart of almost every role-player. A game that even those who have a very vague understanding of video games have heard of, because it managed to take firm roots in modern popular culture.

Of course, we are talking about Diablo, whose dark setting and meaty gameplay served as a powerful source of inspiration for many game designers, screenwriters, directors, artists and even musicians!

It’s amazing how this seemingly simple toy eventually managed to become one of the most recognizable projects in the gaming industry. Even more surprising is that, being within the framework of the unchanged concept laid down by the original back in 1996, each new part of Diablo managed to make a tangible breakthrough in the genre hack-and-slash and at the same time be completely different from its predecessor.

But what is not at all surprising is the rapid emergence of an army of “imitators”, some blindly copying the principles of gameplay, style and other distinctive elements of the series, while others tried (and often unsuccessfully) to add something of their own.

Below we provide a list of the most successful and interesting “Diablo-like” games on PC.

12. Torchlight

Let's start with the RPG that is more similar to Diablo 2 than any other. It would probably be more correct to talk here about how these games differ from each other, because Torchlight, by and large, is an almost exact copy of Diablo (of course, with its own setting and plot).

This similarity is not accidental: the same people who took part in the creation of the first and second parts of Diablo worked on the game.

And now about how these projects differ from each other:

  1. Added to Torchlight fishing.
  2. The hero (by the way, there are three classes to choose from) now has a pet that helps in collecting loot.
  3. Visually, the game has a brighter, more artsy style. If anyone has seen early concept art and screenshots of Diablo 3, they will definitely understand what we are talking about.

11. Torchlight II

A sequel that is not much different from the original, and therefore from Diablo too. Open world, interesting plot, random generation dungeons, funny drawn locations and characters, in a word, everything that brought the success of the first part was carefully preserved and increased by the developers in Torchlight II. And if you liked the original, then you should definitely like the sequel.

10. Dungeon Siege Series

The first part of Dungeon Siege was released in 2002 and was warmly received by Diablo fans, who immediately noted a noticeable bias in the gameplay towards their idol, except that the plot here was more holistic and interesting (but can this be considered a drawback?). Many people still believe that Dungeon Siege is the best among games similar to Diablo.

The next two parts were not distinguished by their originality and variety of mechanics, and therefore did not have such a resounding success as their predecessor, but they earned themselves an honorable place in the top of games similar to Diablo. True, a lot of time has passed since their release, during which many other, more modern and interesting “Diablo-like” games have appeared.

9. Sacred 2

Another worthy representative Action/RPG with an open world, a large number of game classes, hundreds of types of available equipment and limitless possibilities for leveling up the hero.

At the same time, the game has a good plot, and the local atmosphere and game environment are somewhat subtly reminiscent of another popular series of role-playing games from German developers - Gothic.

If the game seems interesting, you can also try the first part of Sacred, but you should immediately mentally prepare for very unattractive graphics (the original was released on PC in 2006).

8.Titan Quest

Action/RPG, whose setting is rich in borrowings from ancient mythology. Moreover, the authors often gave them their own interpretation, changed beyond recognition, which is why the world of Titan Quest turned out to be very bizarre, successfully combining traditional fantasy elements and mythological ideas Ancient Egypt, Greece and Mesopotamia.

The huge world, divided into three acts, and the epic plot telling about the confrontation of the earthly hero with the gods and titans, evokes certain associations with “Oblivion”. Even the depiction of local locations and some opponents immediately evoke certain images from the RPG loved by many. In all other respects, Titan Quest is a typical hack & slash game.

Finally, I would like to add that last year the game celebrated its tenth anniversary, in honor of which a special improved edition was released - Titan Quest Anniversary Edition. You can purchase and download it from the link below.

7. Victor Vran

A project from a new generation of “Diablo-like” games, most similar to Diablo 3.

Victor Vran does not have the usual system of character classes, but there is a huge selection of weapons, divided into seven types, and armor, which determine the style of play, giving the hero a set of unique attacks. There are also many activated abilities called "demon powers" and "fate cards" that provide passive bonuses.

The gameplay of Victor Vran is highly dynamic: the hero can evade enemy attacks, quickly move around locations and even jump. The last ability will be useful not only in battle, but also for finding secrets and even solving some puzzles.

The rest of the game is a standard hack-and-slash with isometric view.

6. Grim Dawn

One of the most interesting games like Diablo 3, constantly updated and improved by its creators (Crate Entertainment). Worthy of attention due to its stunningly detailed open world style dark fantasy, an interesting story telling about the confrontation between a handful of surviving people and several ominous opponents at once, modern, amazing beautiful graphics and special effects.

Traditionally for games like Diablo, Grim Dawn features a large selection of weapons, armor and accessories, and a variety of different enemies, including bosses and champions. The role-playing system deserves special attention, allowing you to combine any two of the classes presented here into one hybrid. In total, the developers claim more than two hundred abilities that can be improved with special items and constellations (a unique system of passive skill improvement).

There are also several factions, improving your reputation with them will give you access to useful in-game items. There is even some semblance of non-linear quest completion, although it has virtually no effect on the gameplay.

For those who find playing through the story campaign not enough, Grim Dawn has an arena mode called “The Crucible.”

5. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

A role-playing game in which the main character is the famous hunter of evil spirits. The project has an appropriate setting: gloomy, fog-covered, mountain ranges and dark forests expanses of the fictional Borgovia, where Doctor Helsing will have to fight hordes of a variety of creatures.

At the same time, in this world, magic calmly coexists with science, which is why in Adventures of Van Helsing you constantly encounter various ingenious mechanisms driven by steam power, and even firearms.

And almost all the local dialogues and plot events are full of healthy humor and self-irony. Particularly amusing are the conversations between the braggart Helsing and his companion Katarina, imbued with cynicism and sarcasm, who is a real ghost.

Three available classes (mage, warrior and marksman), hundreds of pieces of equipment, various tasks, an accessible and understandable role-playing system and much more await players in this wonderful RPG.

4. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 2 and 3

The final two parts of The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing trilogy, continuing the events of the original and opening up new corners of Borgovia for exploration with its frightening secrets and eerie technologies. Even more enemies, more quests, items, alchemical recipes and mini-games like " Tower Defense"Waiting for players here.

The basic concept has remained unchanged, so the game can be recommended to everyone who liked the adventures in the company of Doctor Helsing and his companion Katarina.

3. Divine Divinity

Those who at one time spent in Divine Divinity more than one hour, they will say that this game does not have as much in common with Diablo as other projects on our list. This is true, however, when the game first came out, it was dubbed a clone of Blizzard’s unforgettable brainchild, without even having time to really understand it.

This RPG really looks very similar, the maps seem almost the same as what we have already seen in Diablo. Battles with heaps monsters there is enough here too. What sets Divine Divinity apart is its high-quality role-playing component. The developers managed to create and describe a world that you want to explore, to come up with a story whose ending you are afraid to know. Among the undoubted advantages of the game are also colorful characters, subtle humor and a pleasant atmosphere of good quality classic RPG.

2.Nox

This RPG came out even a little earlier than the legendary second part of Diablo, moreover, among all the clones of the great and terrible Nox, it is perhaps the most successful.

The battles here are really interesting - the opponents have some kind of brain, so they can run away if they smell something fried, or eat something useful in battle. As for magical abilities, in addition to the usual spells that act once, there are also long-lasting ones - the hero casts either while the player presses the button, or until the mana runs out. What adds realism to what is happening on the screen is that enemies can hide in some bushes and suddenly jump out of them, and the hero cannot be completely protected from this.

It’s also nice that the settlements in Nox are much more vibrant than in Diablo, so exploring the cities is a separate pleasure.

1.Path of Exile

The game that comes closest to the Diablo series in terms of atmosphere and quality of gameplay.

The world of Path of Exile is literally filled to the brim with cruelty and hopelessness. There is black magic everywhere, reviving corpses, ancient dark deities and so on. Perhaps, with just one elaboration of the game environment, this RPG could have been sent to the top.

In addition, the game offers as many as seven playable characters to choose from with a deeply developed leveling system. Each person's abilities depend on the stone inserted into their equipment, as well as on a tree of more than a thousand (!) passive skills, activated by distributing skill points. This didn't even happen in any of the three Diablo games.

In conclusion, I would like to add that with such impressive advantages, Path of Exile is also absolutely free.

Other candidates: Drakensang Online, Hellgate: London, Harbinger, Bastion, Silverfall, Hob, Royal Quest.
