The need to install a chandelier on the ceiling raises a number of questions from inexperienced craftsmen. In fact, there are no particular difficulties in this matter - all that is needed is to understand two key stages of work, one of which is directly related to the installation of the chandelier, and the second - to the power supply. About how to hang a chandelier from the ceiling, and will be discussed in this article.
To hang a chandelier, you must perform the following sequence of operations:
Before attaching the chandelier to the ceiling, it is worth learning more about each step.
Electrical installation work is only possible if the safety regulations are observed. The need to comply with these rules is associated with a high risk of electric shock, which can lead to serious negative consequences for both the wiring and the person who installs the electrical appliance.
The most important rules to learn about before hanging a chandelier from the ceiling are as follows:
Before attaching the chandelier, you need to prepare the following set of tools:
Of the materials, in addition to the details of the chandelier itself, you will need:
Before you hang the lamp on the ceiling, you need to study the possible types of fasteners, each of which is suitable for specific installation conditions:
All the presented methods of fastening chandeliers deserve more detailed consideration.
To implement this method of installation, a special hook is used, on one side of which there is a dowel. Before you hang the chandelier on the hook, you need to screw it into the ceiling. A loop is subsequently suspended from it, which is available in the design of the selected device. Installation of such a mount is very simple and with minimal time.
However, despite all the convenience, the hook mount is not universal - it can only be used for wooden and concrete ceilings, i.e. the cover must be monolithic. With plasterboard ceilings, this method will not work - the hook will simply tear out of insufficiently strong material, so you will have to think about how to hang the lamp differently.
For heavy and large chandeliers, it is more appropriate to use an anchor hook. This type of fastening is highly reliable and has excellent bearing capacity, and you don’t have to think about how to make a hook for a chandelier - you can just buy it. The anchor is screwed into the ceiling and expands, securely fixed in the ceiling. When using any kind of hooks, you need to select a chandelier with a decorative bowl that will cover unattractive structural elements.
If the chandelier provides for the possibility of installation on the bar, then the installation of the lighting device will take a little more time and labor. The fastener itself is a metal bar with two screws and nuts. The answer to the question of how to hang a chandelier with a plank is quite simple - the bar is attached to the right place, after which the chandelier is hung close to it.
The option using the bar is somewhat more laborious compared to the hook fastening, but there are no particular difficulties in it. In order for the ceiling lights on the bar to be installed correctly, you just need to securely fix the fasteners in the selected area and adjust the gap between the screws to match the gap in the fixture itself.
When figuring out how to attach a chandelier to the ceiling without a hook, you should pay attention to the lamps that are attached directly to the ceiling using self-tapping screws. The technology for installing such products is extremely simple - there are mounting holes in the back cover of the lamp through which it is screwed directly to the right place.
You can use this method of fastening only with those lamps that are light in weight. Normally, back cover mounting is carried out not on the ceiling, but on the wall, but if necessary, other options can be considered.
The technology for connecting lighting fixtures to the mains may vary within certain limits, but there are practically no fundamental differences:
Regardless of how the chandelier was connected, it must be checked after completion of work for performance and decorative properties. First of all, you need to inspect the assembled structure - various parts of cables and other working elements should not stick out of it. Also, the lamp needs to be slightly shaken to check how securely it is fixed. The last thing you need to turn on the machine on the shield - if it does not turn off, then everything works fine.
Sometimes various nuances arise in the process of work (for example, the ceiling surface is uneven, and it is not possible to mount the fasteners), so you need to figure out how to hang a chandelier in a non-standard situation:
In this article, we talked about how to properly hang a chandelier from the ceiling. There are several different methods, each of which has its own nuances, but in general they are all quite simple and quite suitable for self-assembly.
Nowadays, there is a huge selection of all kinds of lighting fixtures mounted on the ceiling. But, nevertheless, many continue to install chandeliers in their homes and other premises, as a familiar classic element. How to hang a chandelier to the ceiling correctly, and what should be avoided when performing this type of work, we will just consider in this article.
How to attach a chandelier with your own hands
A chandelier is not the only type of lighting equipment that can be used in a stretch ceiling. In addition to it, you can find all kinds of spotlights, spots, spotlights, LED strips and more.
However, a chandelier rich in appearance is an integral part of the classic, familiar interior. It complements the room, making it look more harmonious and complete.
In this article, we will look at:
So after reading, you can do it with your skillful hands. Let's get started...
How to choose a chandelier for a stretch ceiling?
We hang ourselves: how to attach with your own hands
The choice of chandeliers for stretch ceilings must be made according to the following parameters:
The types of fasteners that you will have to come into contact with are as follows:
What chandelier and how to screw with your own hands
The chandelier can be hung from the ceiling in one of the ways presented in the table:
Chandelier mounting method | Peculiarities |
In this case, the bracket or bar is attached to two screws, with adjustment of the distance between them, which are then tightened with nuts. In this case:
|
|
This is an old and fairly reliable method. If the mass of the chandelier is not more than 4 kg, you can take a metal ordinary threaded hook.
|
|
Mounts and works like a straight bracket, but has more mounting points for the structure. Allows you to use it for heavier ceiling chandeliers that are adjacent to the ceiling. |
|
Used to fasten heavy chandeliers at several points. The mounting strips are curved to allow the wires to exit freely. |
Let's consider how to install each of the types of fastening structures on the base ceiling.
There are many methods, we will name the old and proven methods:
To fix the anchor hook, it is necessary to drill a hole in the concrete to match the diameter of the anchor itself. Next, the anchor is hammered into the hole, and then the screw hook or nut is tightened to wedged the anchor in the ceiling.
Depending on the chandelier, the diameter of the anchor is selected. Their size varies from 6 mm to 14 mm - these are the most popular options.
The next type of fastener can be made as follows. Insert a 8-10 mm wire rod into a hole made in advance with a diameter of 30-50 mm in the overlap channel.
The hook can be made from the same 6-8 mm wire rod, make a hook at one end, and a 14-16 mm ring at the other. Then insert the hook with a ring into the hole and thread the mortgage rod through the ring.
If the plates have voids inside, then you can buy a regular wedging hook. Its installation will not be difficult.
This bar has standard dimensions provided by the manufacturer of the chandelier. All these strips have the same characteristics: there are screw clamps on the sides of the chandelier, and on the main part, applied to the base, there are holes for fastening.
Use a wooden beam to install the plank. Its location should be approximately 3-5 mm closer to the ceiling than the level of the stretch ceiling.
To mount this structure, it is necessary to provide a supporting platform. It can be made from plywood 16-20 mm thick. In its dimensions, it should be slightly wider than the blades of the cross. A hole for the cable outlet is drilled in the center, with a diameter of 50 mm.
Advice! For mounting to the base ceiling, use straight hangers, which are attached to the platform with 16 mm wood screws or 9 mm “bugs” screws on top so that there is no possibility of damaging the ceiling surface. Fasten the structure to the ceiling using anchor dowels for concrete or wood screws to a wooden surface.
The fastening method for this type of bar is the same as for the cruciform one. The only difference is in the way it is attached to the base of the platform. How to install a chandelier on a stretch ceiling - the video that we have selected for you in this article.
Let's start with a list of small, but very important nuances.
Let's make a reservation right away, there are many ways to hang a chandelier from the ceiling, but practice shows that in some cases, neglecting elementary rules can lead to disastrous results, such as a lighting fixture falling to the floor. At the very beginning, let's look at how not to hang a chandelier.
Why are we bringing this issue up now? The fact is that knowing how not to do it can completely affect the entire course of the implementation of certain construction works.
In order not to overload you with unnecessary information, here is a small example:
But life situations are different, there was a fire in the room, and the “specialists” fixed the hook in the ceiling with plastic dowels. If in the normal state the fastening of the hook was quite reliable, after exposure to high temperature, the plastic dowels simply melted.
In specialized stores or departments of shopping centers, a huge selection of modern lighting devices is presented, which differ in both the method of attachment and design. There are reliable options for how to hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling, which it is advisable to find out about before buying it.
Previously, the lamps were of the same type and they were fixed in a standard way - they hung them on a hook and connected the wires by twisting. But for modern lighting devices, the design is different, ranging from shades that fit snugly to the surface, and to chandeliers located on a long rod with a large number of horns. At the same time, their weight and the load they exert on the ceiling also differ greatly.
There are several ways to hang a lamp from the ceiling:
The methods of attaching a chandelier or other lighting device to the ceiling, as a rule, are not chosen, since this depends on the particular lamp and is described in the data sheet for it. But the strength and reliability of the result depends on how well such work is done.
In older buildings, color-coded modern wiring is rare. Usually, a few wires with standard insulation are visible from a hole in the floor.
If the wiring is new and was carried out in accordance with the PUE standards, then the color of the wires in the cable is different. According to it, their purpose is easily determined. For inexpensive lighting fixtures and old-style chandeliers, the wires often have the same color; they need to ring to make the connection.
In modern devices, all color-coded outgoing wires are assembled on a block, and the sequence of actions on how to hang a ceiling lamp is described in detail in the passport attached to it.
Color marking, depending on the purpose of the wire, is made according to specific rules and therefore it can be quite easily determined:
Before you mount a chandelier on the ceiling, you need to know the purpose of each wiring from those that are in the lamp and in the wiring. If the lighting device is new, like the wiring, then the connection will pass without problems. To do this, it will be enough to connect elements with a similar marking on the block.
When it is impossible to determine the purpose of the wires, focusing on their color, this is done using special devices. The main thing is to remember the safety rules and strictly follow the instructions.
In case there is no color marking on the wires, an electrical device is required to recognize them. It is called a phase indicator and shows its presence at the end of the wire. It has an external resemblance to a screwdriver.
Such a device consists of several parts, which are:
Using an indicator screwdriver, the presence of voltage is determined as follows: it is held with the right hand between the thumb and middle fingers, and the index finger is placed on the metal terminal.
It is necessary to touch all the wires with a sting in turn. When contact with a phase conductor with voltage is made, the corresponding icon will appear on the display or the LED will light up. The phase search using the indicator is performed exclusively with one hand.
Do not touch the indicator screwdriver or wire insulation with the other hand. The fact is that in the event of an insulation breakdown, an electric shock occurs, and when it passes from one hand to the other, there is a high probability of a sudden contraction of the heart muscle.
Phasing is done step by step:
If the wires brought to the terminal have one color or the marking does not meet the standard, before hanging the lamp on the ceiling, they must be called using a multimeter, for which the device is set to the appropriate mode.
Before starting the process, light bulbs are unscrewed from the chandelier, and then proceed as follows:
When there is one phase wire and several stages of lighting in the luminaire wiring, all cartridges should be connected to it. In this case, the phase wires coming from the chandelier are combined with a twist or a jumper on the block. When the preparation of the electrical wiring and the lighting device is completed, they begin to mount it on the ceiling.
Before you hang the ceiling chandelier, complete the finishing of the ceiling. When the hole in it, from which the wires depart, exceeds the dimensions of the lamp bowl, it is sealed with putty with gypsum, cleaned and painted to match the finish.
You will need the following tools, materials and equipment:
If, before hanging the chandelier on the ceiling, it is found that the length of the wires does not allow them to be fixed in the terminals without tension, then they need to be increased. It is forbidden to twist copper and aluminum wires, as they will quickly become covered with a green coating, resulting in poor contact. Due to constant heating, the insulation will melt, which will result in a short circuit. Therefore, they are connected by a terminal block.
The chandelier is mounted on a hook when it has a significant weight and a long rod. Such lamps have a special loop, which is then covered with a decorative bowl or glass.
When the chandelier is attached to the ceiling, the hook can already be built into the ceiling or it needs to be installed. The process of hanging the lamp is simple, and the installation of the hook deserves attention. For chandeliers weighing up to 5 kilograms, you can use a simple hook plus a plastic dowel.
For mounting heavy fixtures, use hooks on anchors that are firmly fixed in concrete. They are designed to withstand heavy loads. The hook, before hanging the chandelier to the ceiling, must be tried on to the bowl, since it must fit completely in it with the connecting block.
Mounting the lighting device on the hook is performed in a certain sequence:
There is a way to hang a ceiling chandelier without a hook, which allows you to mount it on a special bar or bracket. This option is usually used for fixtures adjacent to the ceiling surface, and in some cases for chandeliers with a rod.
The mounting process consists of the following steps:
As in the hook version, before hanging a chandelier from the ceiling without a hook, you need to turn off the power supply in the entire apartment or house. If the lamp is planned to be mounted in a place where there is a hook, then it should be unscrewed, and when this is not possible, then it can be bent or cut down. The hole that appears in the ceiling is sealed with putty.
The process of how to hang a chandelier without a hook consists of the following steps:
The chandelier is attached to the cruciform bar in the same way, only there will be four places for fixing to the ceiling, and if it is massive, then eight.
If you are not sure about your own electrical installation abilities, it is better to entrust the connection of lighting fixtures to professionals, since incorrect actions may result in damage to the wiring or lamp, which will void the warranty for it.
How to hang a chandelier from the ceiling with your own hands? It would seem like a question. Slide the upper cap of the chandelier down, hang it on a hook, connect the wires, slide the cap on - that's all. But even in this, the simplest case, difficulties can arise. Which? Let's figure it out.
There are four ways to hang chandeliers:
All these mounting methods do not allow you to pull the chandelier close to the ceiling in low rooms. Mounting strips are curved to allow wires to exit. Further in this article, the refinement of the mounting plate will be described, which allows you to press the chandelier close to the ceiling.
Installation of regular fixtures of chandeliers is simple: self-tapping screws in clips-sleeves. The diameter of the self-tapping screws can be determined by the mounting holes in the mounting plate; self-tapping screw length - 40-60 mm. For low ceilings, it is preferable to use ceiling chandeliers, without a rod.
Much more attention should be paid to safety when installing chandeliers: when working on a hill, even a slight electric shock is fraught with a fall and serious injury. Various non-standard situations related to the suspension and installation of chandeliers will also be considered: a suspended ceiling with a chandelier, how to hang a chandelier on drywall.
Phase indicator and wire phasing
First of all, you need to check the phasing of the wires for the chandelier. The neutral wire (neutral) is common, and the phase wires are connected to the lamp sections through the switch.
Phase / zero wiring is determined by a special device - a phase indicator. It can be purchased at any electrical supply store. The indicator is inexpensive. Phase indicators come with a neon light bulb and a quenching resistor and electronic ones.
The indicator looks like a screwdriver. When using it, the device is lightly clamped between the index and middle fingers of the right hand in the place intended for this; it is either highlighted in color, or has a notch and is separated from the sting by a safety cuff. TOUCH INDICATOR STING DURING OPERATION DANGER TO LIFE!
When checking the phasing, the thumb touches a special metal terminal on the end of the device handle, or a button in the electronic indicator, and the indicator sting touches the wire under test. If it is phase, the lamp flashes or the corresponding symbol appears on the display. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HOLD THE WIRE WITH THE OTHER HAND, EVEN FOR THE INSULATION! The indicator works ONLY ONE - RIGHT - HAND!
Before checking, turn out/turn off BOTH plugs. Then the ends of the wires for the chandelier sticking out of the ceiling are exposed, the ends are spread apart, the plugs are turned on, and the switch is turned on. A stool is placed on a rubber mat, and from it, with the right hand, a phase wire or two phase wires are found with an indicator if the chandelier switch is double. Then the switch is turned off without touching the plugs, and the phasing is checked again. Now the indicator should not glow when you touch any of the wires.
If the phase remains somewhere, the switch must be switched to a phase break, and the neutral wire, if the switch is unipolar, should be switched directly. This work is simple, and picking the wall is not required. But, if you are not an electrician, then you need to invite a specialist for it. No jokes with electricity are in vain.
Search wiring
Before drilling holes for fasteners in the ceiling, you need to determine where the wiring lies so that you do not interrupt it when drilling. For reliability, the search for wiring must be done under load, i.e. under current. Give the load on the wiring as follows:
The search for wiring is best done with an electronic indicator; neon indicator works only in direct contact with live parts. There are special devices - wiring finders, but they are more expensive, and the accuracy is no more than two thicknesses of plaster. If the wiring is also hidden in strobes, then the error will be about 5 cm, which is not enough. The indicator at any depth of occurrence gives an accuracy of 1-2 cm.
The indicator is led by placing a finger on the button along the ceiling perpendicular to the intended direction of wiring. When the phase icon appears on the display, make a mark with a pencil and drive on. When the icon disappears, a second mark is made.
Then the same place is passed in the opposite direction; there will be two pairs of marks. In the middle between the internal and lies the wiring. Then they shift by 15-20 cm along the wiring and the search is repeated until the end of the working area.
Mounting the chandelier on regular fixtures
Mounting a chandelier on standard fixtures comes down to wiring power wires for sections of light bulbs. When checking the phasing of the wiring, the neutral wire must be immediately noted somehow, at least by bending it close to the ceiling with the indicator sting. Then the plugs are turned out / turned off and the wires are brought into the chandelier.
In modern electrical appliances, the neutral wire is always yellow with a longitudinal green stripe, and all wires are pre-wired into the connector - the terminal block. The neutral wire of the wiring is connected first: insert it into the neutral terminal and tighten the screw. Then the phase wires are connected. They push the cap to the place - the work is over.
And if the wiring in the room is of two wires? Or grandfather's chandelier, or antique, and you can't see where the phase is, and where is zero?
In the first case, a small piece of the same wire section is added to the phase wire (PLUGS - OFF!) (see Fig.) And both sections of the bulbs are switched on for one phase. The whole chandelier will be turned on with one switch.
chandelier
If the wires in the chandelier are not marked, and there is no terminal block, then the chandelier needs to be ringed. This is done by a regular tester. RINGING THE CHANDELIER WITH A CONTROL LIGHT FROM THE 220 V NETWORK IS DANGEROUS TO LIFE!
For continuity, we screw the SAME into all the cartridges of the chandelier, i.e. one power and brand, incandescent lamps; better low-power, 15-25 watts. Housekeeper light bulbs are no good, dialing them will not work.
The scheme of the chandelier is given in the figure. From it, a person familiar with electrical engineering or at least who has not forgotten Ohm's school law can see that if the resistance of one light bulb is R, then there will be R between zero and FI; between zero and FII - 0.5R, and between phases - 1.5R. To ring three wires in pairs, six measurements are needed.
"Special" chandeliers
Recently, chandeliers have appeared on sale, equipped with a remote control for adjusting the light, a fan, an air ionizer or even an air conditioner (more precisely, its evaporative unit). When buying such products, the following rules must be observed:
Chandeliers with additional functions - products are quite specific; there are few firms or craftsmen involved in their installation, and “special” chandeliers are not cheap.
emergency situations
And how to properly hang a chandelier on the ceiling if there is no regular fixture, or it cannot be used? To do this, you will have to stock up on a tool for working on concrete, stone, wood, drywall, and work.
Low ceiling
The standard version is a chandelier-plafond and fastening with a cross bar. But what if the room is low, but you still don’t want to install a ceiling? In this case, you can gain 10-15 cm by hanging a chandelier with a rod on the ceiling without a hook.
To do this, the standard mounting plate is straightened, cut so that it is hidden under the cap, and new holes are drilled in it for self-tapping screws. Next, the chandelier needs to be slightly modified:
The purpose of this refinement is to bring the wires to the side so that they are not pressed against the ceiling and transferred by the edge of the rod. Attention: if the rod is fixed or curly, the cap must remain on it. Otherwise, he will not get dressed later because of the wires sticking out to the side.
Next, a mounting plate is installed on the rod between two regular nuts, and the chandelier is attached to the ceiling with screws. Most likely, nuts will not be needed: in most chandeliers, the bar is attached to the rod by flaring.
Connect wires. It may turn out that the terminal block now does not fit in the cap - it's okay, it is completely removed, and the wires are connected by soldering; joints are insulated with electrical tape. It is not recommended to connect the wires with a twist: there will be problems with a flashing chandelier later.
Now we mount the chandelier to the ceiling with self-tapping screws. We do not tightly wrap the screws into the sleeves, otherwise the chandelier will become oblique.
Option for weak but dense ceilings: laminate, MDF, plywood. Instead of a mounting plate, we make a circle with a diameter of 5 mm less than the inner diameter of the cap. In the center - a hole for the rod; in a circle - 4-6 holes for self-tapping screws. You will also need to make a hole for the wires.
If you need a hook
Fixing a chandelier to a concrete ceiling on a plank or I-beam does not raise any questions. And if the chandelier you like is hooked, but it is not at home? A little work - and a very reliable hook you can put yourself:
If a hook with a support platform for fastening with self-tapping screws, we make nests for them in the same way, but we take a thinner wire - 0.4-0.6 mm. And you will have to knead a separate portion of the solution for each nest - it hardens very quickly to a mushy state.
Such nests serve for centuries without shrinking like plastic. When wrapping / turning the hook 2-3 times, the socket does not loosen. If necessary, it is easily cleared of filling with a narrow chisel and redone. When repairing a gypsum-alabaster nest, you can plaster it, and then dig a hole in the plaster for a hook.
Chandelier in the stretch ceiling
Installing a chandelier on a stretch ceiling is the most difficult case. First of all: a chandelier with incandescent lamps and a stretch ceiling are incompatible. Even from a three-arm chandelier with 40 W lamps, spots will appear on the ceiling in a month, and within 3 months it will begin to creep. Economy light bulbs in chandeliers recessed into the ceiling quickly burn out due to poor heat transfer; The only option here is LED bulbs.
Then, installing a chandelier in an existing stretch ceiling is impossible: it will have to be removed and a new one installed. Trying to cut holes in an already stretched ceiling is useless - the film or fabric will immediately spread.
And finally, before calling the ceiling masters, you need to prepare a fixture for the chandelier. The regular fixture of the chandelier is not designed for installation in stretch ceilings, therefore, if the chandelier is hung on a hook, it must be installed in the ceiling in advance.
To mount on planks or I-beams on the base ceiling, you need to attach a pillow made of waterproof BS or MDF plywood, at least 16 mm thick, on the brackets, as shown in the figure. A wooden or ordinary plywood pillow in the inter-ceiling space will soon dry out, and this will end in an accident.
According to the installed pillow, the ceiling mounts will take measurements and make holes in the panel, framed by grommets. Through them, the chandelier will be attached to the pillow with long fasteners, with a gap for the “play” of the ceiling. Wide holes are additionally reinforced with "spider" supports, but this is a subject for a separate discussion.
If it is supposed to drown the chandelier in a stretch ceiling, then it should hang in place during the measurement. But still, a chandelier in a stretch ceiling is not the best option in terms of costs. Only due to the uneven distribution of the load due to the presence of holes, such a ceiling is more likely to sag and lose its appearance than a solid one.
Chandelier on plasterboard ceiling
Attaching a chandelier to a plasterboard ceiling is also not easy, but still easier than in a room with a stretch ceiling. There are three possible cases here:
Note: hanging a chandelier on a hook through drywall is unreliable - the collet is held in the ceiling by friction. Therefore, for suspension to a plasterboard ceiling, it is better to choose chandeliers with a cantilever mount.
How to shoot chandeliers
And how to remove the chandelier from the ceiling, if necessary? All described methods of fastening allow dismantling in the reverse order of installation.
In the first place, again, safety precautions: turn off the switch, turn off or unscrew the plugs. Then we remove all fragile parts from the chandelier: crystal pendants, etc. Next, we turn off the wires, isolate their bare ends, and only after that we proceed to disassemble the mount.
With a stretch stretch or plasterboard ceiling, we remove only the chandelier itself. We do not touch pillows, butterflies, collets and other auxiliary parts. This is especially true for collets and butterflies: these are disposable parts, they are not designed for re-assembly.
It would seem, what could be easier than hanging a chandelier? But even in the simplest case, some nuances may arise. Consider several variations of fasteners used for reliable installation of chandeliers.
Installation of most types of fasteners is very simple. Self-tapping screws are most often used. The diameter of the self-tapping screw will depend entirely on the mounting hole, which is located on the mounting plate. Their length should be at least 4 cm and not more than 6 cm. If your home has rather low ceilings, then you are better off buying ceiling chandeliers that do not have a rod.
Note! When working on high ground with electrical wires, be aware that even a slight electric shock can cause you to fall and be injured.
Before installing an electric lighting item, check the presence of phases. The neutral wire will always be common. Phase, in turn, are connected through a switch to the lamp. The indicator will help you determine the zero phase. As for the indicator, it can be of two types: electronic or with a quenching resistor having a neon light bulb. Outwardly, it resembles an ordinary screwdriver. In the process of using the indicator, lightly pinch it with your fingers (index and middle). In this case, use only your right hand. As a rule, the clamping point is indicated by color or has special notches. It is also equipped with a special safety cuff that separates it from the sting. It is not recommended to touch the sting when determining the phases.
Before you start drilling holes for mounting the fasteners, you need to determine where the wiring is. Otherwise, there is a high probability that you will kill her. You need to look for wires that are under electric current. This procedure takes place in the following sequence:
Note! To achieve the fastest possible result, it is better to use an electronic indicator, because its analogue with a neon lamp works only in direct contact with current-carrying elements.
There are special devices designed for this purpose. However, they have a rather high price. If your wiring was recessed into strobes, then the error in the readings of the device may be five centimeters. In contrast, the indicator gives the result with maximum accuracy, where the error is up to two centimeters.
Guide the device along the ceiling by placing your finger on the button. The movement of the device must be carried out perpendicular to the intended direction of the wiring. If the phase icon appears on the display, then make a mark in this place. Keep running the indicator. When the phase icon disappears, mark again. Then the same procedure must be repeated in the opposite direction. In the middle between the internal marks is the wiring. Next, you should continue the process in the same way. So, you need to do before the end of the working area.
Installing a chandelier on conventional fixtures comes down to the fact that you will need to distribute the power wiring to the sections of the lamps. To lead the wires into the chandelier, it is checked in which of them the phase is. The ground wire just needs to be bent. Usually in chandeliers, the ground wire is indicated in yellow, along which a green strip runs. In addition, all wires will be brought into the connector or terminal block.
Connect the neutral wire first, connect together all the neutral wires coming from the cartridges, and combine them with the neutral wire of the network. Now you can start connecting the phase wires. Connection proceeds in the same way. The phase wires are connected to the phase wire coming from the switch. Slide the cap into place, and the work of connecting the chandelier to the electrical network will be completed.
If there are no markings and terminal blocks on the wires of your chandelier, then the chandelier should be called. The procedure is carried out using an ordinary tester. Remember that ringing a chandelier with a control light from a 220 V network can be dangerous for your life. Do not experiment with electricity! In order to carry out a dialing, screw the same light bulbs into all the chandelier cartridges, not only in terms of power, but also brands. In this case, it is better to use low-power incandescent lamps - no more than 25 watts. Just do not use economy lamps, because it is impossible to make a dial with them!
The image of the chandelier circuit shows that if the resistance of one lamp is R, then, therefore, between zero and ФІ there will be R. Accordingly, between zero and ФІІ - 0.5 R, between the phases there will be 1.5 R. For the continuity of three wires, you should take six measurements. To understand this scheme, you need to remember Ohm's law, which everyone went through in the school curriculum.
Nowadays, there are often chandeliers that are equipped with a remote control. So, you can adjust the degree of illumination of the room. Some chandeliers are equipped with an air ionizer, a fan, or even an evaporative unit from an air conditioner. If you follow some rules when choosing lighting fixtures of this type, then you can hang even a non-standard chandelier correctly.
How to hang a chandelier on the ceiling if there is no typical fastening, or its use is impossible? To do this, you will need a tool for working on wood, stone, drywall or concrete. Now you can get to work.
The most acceptable option for a low ceiling would be a chandelier-plafond mounted on a cross bar. What if there is no desire to mount the ceiling in a low room? 10-15 cm can be gained by hanging a chandelier with a rod on the ceiling without using a hook.
To do this, you need to straighten the standard mounting plate, and then cut it so that it hides under the cap. Drill new holes in the bar, which will be intended for screwing in self-tapping screws. Now you need to upgrade the chandelier:
This refinement is necessary in order to bring the wires to the side. Thus, they will be as close to the ceiling as possible. If the rod on the chandelier cannot be removed or it is made in the form of some figure, then do not remove the cap. Otherwise, it will not work to put it on because of the wires sticking out from the side.
At this point, you will need to install a mounting plate on the rod located between the two standard nuts, which will help later attach the fixture to the ceiling with self-tapping screws. Now connect the wires. If there is not enough space for the terminal block, then remove it.
Note! To avoid problems with flashing lights, do not twist the wires. To achieve the maximum expected result, you will have to solder the wires and insulate the joints using simple electrical tape.
The weight of the chandelier plays an important role in the process of hanging it. For example, if the lighting device weighs no more than 3 kg, then it is best to fix it with a butterfly. This fastener has a plastic clip and, in addition, a screw hook. According to the holes of the clip, drill holes in the ceiling. Then screw the hook into the clip a few turns. Insert the clip all the way into the corresponding hole and carefully tighten the hook. The plastic clip opens from the inside into petals that fix the hook.
If the chandelier you purchased has a weight of around 5-7 kg, then you can fix it on the so-called cantilever strips. For each attachment point, it is recommended to use a butterfly dowel. In the process of tightening the self-tapping screw, the butterfly gradually opens from the inside, so that a reliable fastening is formed.
If the chandelier you bought is heavy and exceeds 7 kg, then in order to hang it, you will need to use a collet pin, the diameter of which should be 1.2 cm.
To install the collet stud, drill a hole in the base concrete ceiling (through drywall) that matches the diameter and length of the sleeve. Insert it into the pin, and then insert it into the hole until it stops, screw it in. Now the collet will open and wedged inside the ceiling. The threaded end will remain outside. A hook with a threaded socket should be screwed onto it.
However, it is worth considering that hanging a chandelier on a hook through a layer of drywall can be unreliable. This is because the collet rubs against the sheet of drywall, thereby destroying it. In view of this, it is better to choose chandeliers equipped with a cantilever mounting type.
The most difficult thing is to hang a chandelier on a stretch ceiling. The first thing to consider is that incandescent lamps cannot be screwed into chandeliers installed on stretch ceilings. Even from a 40 W incandescent lamp, after a month spots form on the ceiling, and after three months it will completely spread. In addition, it should be noted that economical light bulbs in chandeliers recessed into the ceiling will quickly burn out. This is due to poor heat transfer. The most successful option is the installation of LED lamps.
Note! It is impossible to install a chandelier in an already installed stretch ceiling! Any attempt to make a hole in it is prone to collapse, because the fabric or film will instantly disperse, which is why you have to change it.
The best option is to call specialists who install stretch ceilings. However, before that, you still have to prepare the base for mounting the chandelier. Ordinary fasteners are not designed for mounting a chandelier in a stretch ceiling. In view of this, if you are going to hang a chandelier on a hook, it must be fixed to the ceiling in advance. If an I-beam or a mounting plate acts as a fastener, then a pillow must be attached to the concrete ceiling, which is made of waterproof MDF or BS plywood. Its thickness should be at least 1.6 cm. Do not install a wooden pillow from ordinary plywood. This is due to the fact that this material dries out over time, which can lead to an accident.
Before making a hole in the stretch ceiling film, it is necessary to measure the pillow. After, the hole must be framed with an eyelet. Using long fasteners, a chandelier is suspended. Here the gap for the "play" of the stretch ceiling should be taken into account. In the event that a larger hole is required, they can be additionally fixed with a spider.
Note! If you want to sink a chandelier into the ceiling, then the chandelier is installed first, and then the ceiling itself. However, remember that a chandelier as lighting in a composition with a stretch ceiling is not the best option. Why? The fact is that due to uneven load, the ceiling will sag over time, due to which its appearance will be lost.
If you take into account the following sequence of work, you can successfully install a reliable screw hook.
If the hook you use must be fastened with self-tapping screws, then make nests for them in the same way as described above. However, take a thinner wire, its thickness can be 0.4-0.6 mm. For each nest, you will need to make the mortar separately, because it hardens quickly. Interestingly, such nests can last more than one century. They, unlike plastic, do not dry out. Moreover, when the hook is screwed in and out three times, the nest will not loosen. If necessary, it can simply be cleaned of the old filler using a narrow chisel and updated. If you need to plaster the surface of the ceiling, then plaster the gypsum-alabaster nest too. After hardening, you can again make a hole for the hook in the same place.
