Laying clinker tiles facade. Clinker tiles - facing for centuries. floor laying technology

23.06.2020 Accessories

Facing the steps of a porch or flight of stairs using clinker tile material is rightfully considered one of the most successful options for decorating a porch group. Extruded clinker has great strength and abrasion resistance, practically does not slip in rain and snow. Laying clinker steps, material installation technology is not much more complicated than sticking any other ceramic tiles, if you follow certain work rules and manufacturer's requirements.

Features of using clinker tiles for facing steps of the porch

If you wish, you can find a huge amount of information materials that tell in detail about how to properly lay clinker steps. But most of the advice and recommendations on laying technology are based on pure theory, without taking into account the specifics of the clinker material, therefore they do not provide answers to working questions.

Before undertaking the laying of clinker tiles, the following must be taken into account:

  • Buying good clinker is much more difficult than porcelain stoneware or natural stone tiles. Spanish and German tile materials are most in demand, there is practically no Russian clinker for facing steps, and the one that is is of very mediocre quality;
  • As for any other ceramic materials, the technology of laying clinker tiles provides for the obligatory exposure of expansion gaps;
  • Despite the high hardness and strength, clinker has a tendency to uncontrolled cracking when cutting, so before laying, first of all, you will need to master the technology of high-quality accurate cutting to size;
  • The durability of the steps and expensive tiles in the first place depends on how correctly the brand of the adhesive mixture is chosen.

The steps of a porch or flight of stairs experience a huge load during operation. For example, the tearing force of moisture freezing at the joints can split heavy-duty clinker material up to 20 mm thick. Therefore, the laying technology involves the use of special glue of increased strength.

Advice! Trying to skimp on adhesives, grouts or impregnations is the best way to ruin the whole job.

According to most experts, the main cause of chips and defects is the poor quality of the adhesive composition or ignoring the technology of laying the clinker material. When facing steps, it must be remembered that any adhesives, especially for ceramics and clinker tiles, have a large shrinkage.

For certain brands of tile adhesive, the shrinkage value can reach half the shrinkage characteristic for fresh concrete. If you guess with the thickness of the adhesive layer and withstand the laying technology, then due to the high adhesion of the rough clinker surface, you can achieve the durability of the facing of the steps for 20-25 years of use. Whereas for porcelain stoneware, the periodic gluing of rebounded facing tiles on the steps is considered quite an ordinary phenomenon.

Preparation for laying clinker on the steps of the porch

The technology of tile installation requires careful preparation for the process of laying the facing material. The process is usually divided into three independent sections:

  • Preparation of the concrete surface of the steps of the porch. It will be necessary to remove all defects, sinks and influxes of concrete mass, cut the concrete surface of the tread and riser with a grinder so as to obtain the most flat base for tile gluing;
  • Clean the concrete of the steps from dust and debris, apply two coats of a deep penetration acrylic primer. This technology provides good waterproofing of concrete;
  • If possible, plan the steps of the porch according to the number of tiles planned for laying so that an integer number of clinker elements fit across the entire width of the flight of stairs;
  • Unpack all packages and mix clinker tiles from different packs into one mass. This allows you to even out the color and shade of the facing of the steps.

It may be necessary to additionally trim the clinker lining. For example, tile material produced in Spain usually "sins" with the presence of extrusion flash and a wide variation in side sizes ranging from 2 to 5 mm.

In accordance with the technology, non-standard tiles must be sized and cut on the sides before proceeding to laying them. Otherwise, the width of the seams and the accuracy of the installation of the tiled material will “walk”, which will necessarily affect the quality and appearance of the steps of the porch.

Note! Corner clinker tiles, as a rule, are always smaller than ordinary ones, so laying and marking always start with corner elements.

After putting in order and priming the concrete surface of the steps according to the technology, it is necessary to perform a “dry” laying of the clinker. To do this, the calibrated clinker is laid out on steps with shrinkage gaps. Since the porch may have an expanding or rounded flight of stairs, the number of tiles on each step may be different, and in order not to be confused, each element is marked by the step number and position from the left edge. After that, the tiles are collected in a stack, starting from the right edge, the first tiles in the stack will be at the top.

Two ways to correctly lay the clinker material on the steps

Most of the problems with laying clinker tiles arise from mindless copying of the standard laying technology recommended by the manufacturer. For example, the Spaniards recommend making compensating gaps no more than 4-5 mm. For the hot Spanish climate, such technology installations are quite acceptable, since the “hot-cold” temperature difference on the steps of the porch is relatively small.

For our climate, according to the technology, it will be necessary to withstand a joint up to 10 mm thick. Moreover, in some video tutorials on styling technology, for example, as in the video

The exemplary laying of clinker tiles is carried out practically without a gap, with an “overflow” of the adhesive mass, which, after laying and pressing the tile, is squeezed out into the space under the capinos and, as a result, causes the edge to break off.

There are two ways to properly install tile material:

  • Hinged scheme with support of the riser on polypropylene wedges;
  • Laying tiles and risers with an increased gap between the top and bottom tread tiles.

In both cases, a technique prohibited by official technology is used - contrary to the recommendations, the riser does not rest on the surface of the lower clinker tile, it is attached with glue to the vertical plane of concrete. Moreover, the gaps between the riser and the tread tile material have been increased from 6-7 mm to 10 mm.

What gives such a violation of technology? Firstly, the risk of the riser plate being squeezed upwards is reduced, as a result, the kapinos does not chip off even with severe watering and frost. The joint is filled with an elastic sealant that protects and at the same time compensates for the thermal expansion of the material. Secondly, the clinker lining of the step does not lose its appearance, since the seam is practically invisible from the side.

Clinker laying technology, option one

We start the laying process from the top step; according to the technology, it will be necessary to lay the corner elements from the left and right sides. Each riser tile will need to be cut with a grinder and adjusted to the size of the corner tread plate, since the corner due to the lateral extension of the kapinos is 15-20 mm smaller than the standard size.

After the riser, we lay the corner slab itself. We level the first riser and lay the rest on the glue, checking the vertical plane of the cladding with a level.

We lay out each riser on polypropylene wedges, with which you can easily adjust and fix the tile in a certain position. In this case, according to the technology, the distance between the upper edge of the riser and the base of the upper step should be 10 mm.

After laying the vertical slabs, we proceed to the facing of the tread. To level the surface, we use the previously laid corner clinker tiles. Part of the glue is applied to the concrete and rubbed with force over the surface, after which we level it with a notched trowel. We apply the second part of the glue to the tile and also make a comb, but in a perpendicular direction, as in the video

Each tile must be carefully aligned in a row with the help of a building level and a ruler along the horizon and along the overhang of the kapinos. In general, the tread of the step should have a slope of 3-4 o to ensure the flow of water.

After four to six hours, it is necessary to remove the remnants of the adhesive mixture from the joints, and after another day, grout using a branded waterproof material. The gap between the capinos and the upper edge of the riser is filled with silicone in the color of the step.

Laying tiles according to classical technology

Unlike the previous method, in this case, first of all, tread tiles are cut out, adjusted and laid. If the steps have numerous defects or not quite even surface geometry, then you can try to correct the situation using the technology of “suspended” laying of the clinker lining of the tread.

As in the previous case, each slab is carefully tried on at the location on the steps and, if necessary, cut to size. Thin tile material, up to about 10 mm thick, can be cut with a tile cutter. A thick clinker slab is cut with a grinder with the obligatory subsequent grinding of the end and edge of the material.

The next step is to lay the tiles on the adhesive in the usual manner. Since the concrete surface of the step base has not quite the correct geometry, an increased layer of glue is laid according to the technology to remove the tread plane. At the same time, a gap of 7-8 mm must be left between the vertical concrete plane of the step and the rear edge of the tile.

Immediately after laying all the clinkers, a small amount of mounting foam is blown into this gap. While the foam hardens, it is necessary to trim all the tiles horizontally. As a result, the clinker tiles are suspended on a thin strip of hardened foam. A thick layer of glue is not squeezed out, but evenly fills all the defects in the steps. The remains of the foam are cut off and proceed to the laying of the risers.

According to technology, the height of each vertical tile will need to be measured using a ruler or square.

6 mm is subtracted from the obtained value, this is necessary in order to obtain a gap of 3 mm between the lower and upper edges. Laying of riser clinker tiles on glue is carried out according to traditional technology. Part of the glue is applied with a spatula to the concrete, part to the tile, leveled with a comb and placed on the wall, as in the video

After the preliminary setting of the adhesive base, after about two days, all seams are carefully cleaned of glue residue and rubbed with a tinted mixture. As a grout, you can use Ceresit, diluted with Idrostuk-M liquid, which gives the composition good water-repellent properties.

Conclusion

After the grout has dried, the clinker tiles must be thoroughly washed and dried several times. It remains to solve the problem of sealing two horizontal seams located along the upper and lower edges of the riser. Using the tool, we press a layer of brown silicone along both edges. To smooth the silicone, pre-spray the sealant with soapy water and level with a plastic spatula. The clinker tiles laid in this way will easily survive the shrinkage of the concrete base of the steps and the most extreme temperature loads.

Clinker tiles are high-quality, durable, environmentally friendly material. The composition contains highly plastic clay, due to which, during the firing process, the output is quite strong, unpretentious in care, dense in structure and resistant to mechanical stress.

You can buy clinker in different colors, so that when laying the surface of the walls or the facade of buildings will be rough or glazed. Installation of tiles is not much different from tiles and can be done with your own hands, but some nuances in the work should definitely be taken into account.

Preparatory stages

Before installing the clinker facade tiles, it is first necessary to carry out preparatory work.

  • Calculate the amount of material needed.
  • Decide on the laying scheme, usually the panels are placed vertically on a fireplace, wooden, concrete base.
  • Make calculations, calculate the area, perimeter (length, height) of the facade.

Before starting work, it is necessary to make calculations

When preparing, the base (metal, cement screed, concrete, brick wall) requires special attention and should be:

  • durable;
  • smooth vertically and horizontally;
  • dry for perfect laying of clinker;
  • with high bearing capacity;
  • without cracks;
  • clean and it is worth removing particles of varnish, paint, lubricants, otherwise the adhesive properties of the adhesive will be underestimated;
  • durable, shedding of individual sections is unacceptable.

If necessary, the base must be plastered and leveled using repair plaster. In the case of laying clinker tiles on the facade, it is desirable to lay thermal insulation first, which will contribute to the release of heat into the room and protect against penetration of fungus and bacteria into the walls.

On a note! There must be no weakly adhering plaster elements on the base. They must be removed so that the clinker sticks evenly and firmly for many years.

The clinker is laid on an adhesive, which can be purchased at a hardware store, taking into account the installation instructions written on the package.

You can use the traditional mortar by preparing yourself:

  • sand (4 parts);
  • cement brand M500 (1 part).

The output should be a fairly plastic composition with the addition of water, so that it is applied and distributed over the surface in a uniform thin layer.

The use of thermal panels

Thermal panels will serve as finishing and thermal insulation for the facade. Two-layer panels consisting of facing tiles and a thermally insulating polyurethane foam substrate are quite light in weight, so there is no need to additionally strengthen the erected foundation. The load will be evenly distributed over the surface of the walls. Thanks to polyurethane, the house will always be warm in winter, and heating costs will decrease by almost 40%. The main advantages of thermal panels:

  • resistance to acids and alkalis;
  • adaptation to weather conditions;
  • high environmental friendliness;
  • incombustibility;
  • repulsive ability from precipitation, contamination of walls with mold and fungus.

Clinker tiles, together with thermal panels, are attached to load-bearing walls with self-tapping screws.

Installation can be carried out in almost any season of the year. Facade cladding is quick and not difficult, unlike, for example, what difficulties it presents.

Laying tiles on the facade

The technology of laying clinker tiles is phased. It is worth starting work with door and window openings, calculating the boundaries of the location of the panels and making the necessary markings. It is difficult to lay clinker tiles at the corners, so it is necessary to close the base with tiled corners from top to bottom. The tile will serve as a decoration and the tolerance for inaccuracies and laying errors is undesirable.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • treat the walls with glue;
  • moisten the first tile with water, apply the adhesive inside out, make grooves;
  • evenly attach the tile, slightly pressing into the solution;
  • lay step by step until the first horizontal row is laid;
  • pull a cord along the wall so that all subsequent rows lie flat;
  • glue subsequent rows, leaving vertical seams between each tile with a distance equal to the thickness of itself;
  • lay out the steps and the bottom of the facade, using, if necessary, a hacksaw for metal or a special tile cutter for cutting tiles;
  • fill all the seams with a special solution, wipe;
  • remove smudges with a damp brush, without wetting the seams.

Floor laying

The work is phased and it is worth observing the specifics.

  • Prepare the base, close up all hollow pockets and cracks.
  • Achieve perfect evenness by checking the level indicators.
  • Prepare tiles, mix colors if desired, taking into account the future design of the building as a whole.
  • Prepare a mortar in the composition of cement or adhesive mixture.
  • Treat the base with a solution 3–4 cm thick.
  • Lay the tiles moistened with water in parallel rows or in a checkerboard pattern, starting from the middle of the room and leaving joints up to 12 mm wide.
  • Lay out the corners of the room using tiled corners.
  • Fill the joints with a grout mixture or compound (sand + cement).
  • Moisten slightly laid tiles, cover with polyethylene.
  • Leave until the adhesive has completely set.
  • Clean the surface after all seams are completely dry.

Laying the floor with such panels is more profitable and faster, unlike, for example, parquet, where you need to take into account the peculiarities of laying the parquet board.

It is quite possible to carry out the installation of clinker with your own hands, but for the durability of such a coating, it is important not to neglect the advice, building codes and laying rules.

  • To finish the facade, you should choose dry and calm weather with a temperature of + 5 + 30 degrees.
  • You need to start the design with windows and doors, marking the boundaries of the location with a pencil.
  • It is advisable to divide the walls into squares with a side of 1 m, so that the tiles look natural and emphasize the walls favorably.
  • As a rule, tiles of a darker color are laid out at the bottom of the facade - up to 6 m from ground level.
  • Tiles should be uniform in texture and hue, although minor variations in color are acceptable.
  • Dark color contributes to overheating of the building, so it should not exceed 20% when laying out, taking into account the total area of \u200b\u200bthe facade.
  • To fill the joints, it is recommended to use a grout mixture, and you can buy it in different colors, taking into account the shades of the tile.
  • The surface before laying should be smooth and clean, without chips and cracks, which must first be coated, then apply a layer of primer.
  • After sealing, it is additionally recommended to prime the walls to strengthen the base, increase its adhesion to the mortar.
  • It is necessary to mount the clinker after the complete drying of the reinforcing mixture.
  • Clinker is laid in rows, and start from the corner of the room, moving from the bottom up.
  • When gluing insulation to the walls, it is advisable to cover it with a reinforcing compound or a layer of fiberglass on top.

Fiberglass will help insulate the room

Use of additional materials and tools

For even laying of clinker tiles on the wall, you can use the starting corner, remembering to leave seams between the tiles up to 8-12 mm.

For the steps of the facade, you can use another non-slip material, trim with parquet.

When finishing the facade, work should begin from the second row, the first basement should be laid last and after the terrace tiles have been laid. In structure, it is more solid and cut off poorly, and with such a trick it will be possible to hide all its unevenly cut edges.

It is good to use distance crosses to achieve the same size seams.

Distance crosses will help to make symmetrical seams

If the mortar dries quickly on the wall and the tiles do not stick, the adhesive must be applied with a new layer before laying.

Seams can be grouted starting approximately 1 day after laying the tiles.

It is reasonable to remove excess putty with a hard sponge only after the appearance of a matte layer on the tile, which means sufficient drying of the adhesive composition.

Clinker is becoming more and more popular in the construction market. Laying clinker tiles with your own hands is a fairly simple job and it is enough to take into account some subtleties and nuances.

The tile will perform protective functions for the building, give a respectable appearance. But it is important to understand how to lay clinker tiles correctly, taking into account the technology, step-by-step steps, manufacturer's recommendations and weather conditions when working.

Regarding the issue of facing the steps, one cannot ignore the use of clinker tiles. This is an innovative finishing material, which includes excellent performance combined with a high decorative function. Laying clinker steps has its own characteristics, which will be discussed later.

Characteristics of clinker tiles

The production of finishing material with the prefix "clinker" is based on a special extrusion method for processing shale clay. Thanks to this, clinker tiles have all the necessary properties for laying on steps.

frost resistance

Immunity to moisture (water absorption at the level of 2%) ensures a stable response of the clinker tiles to temperature fluctuations. For seasonal fluctuations, the zero line is especially dangerous, when water turns into ice and vice versa. When laying steps using clinker material, the structure is able to withstand about 300 critical cycles. This is possible due to the capillary structure of the product, which contributes to the release of excess moisture, which is one of the key factors influencing the choice in favor of clinker cladding of external surfaces.

For stairs, this is especially true, since the area between the risers and steps is subject to maximum load, and slight delamination can provoke an early destruction of the structure. If the tiles are laid correctly, the risk of chipping and chipping is practically absent.

Important! The use of modern technologies allows facing steps with clinker material in any season.

Wear resistance and mechanical strength

The floor material used for outdoor decoration must have increased resistance to wear. For traditional ceramics, these conditions are not feasible. Clinker tiles intended for laying steps have 4 and 5 abrasion classes, so the durability of the cladding, subject to the work technology, is guaranteed. The level of stability under mechanical stress also depends on the manufacturer:

  • The German Stoeher coating is the most durable, even if you want to scratch the surface, only sparks will fly from it.
  • Spanish products are less stable, but their cost is lower.
  • Things are worse with Polish manufacturers, who periodically offer ordinary ceramics instead of clinker tiles for laying steps.

An important indicator is the resistance of the material under bending loads. The clinker cladding chosen for laying steps is characterized by 20 MPa. Since the load during the operation of the steps is more distributed to the edge of the structure, the value of mechanical strength plays a decisive role.

Anti-skid properties

When laying tiles on steps, you should be aware of the increased level of injury risk during the operation of the stairs. Therefore, care should be taken to select a non-slip surface of the material. The standard by which the degree of slip of a cladding product is determined does not exist in Russia. In addition to visual inspection and their own feelings, consumers can be guided by European standards.

Remark ! Facing ceramics on antiskid properties is divided into five levels: from R9 to R13. Installation of clinker steps is best done with tiles with a class from R11 to R13.

It is worth noting such an indicator as adhesive adhesion. The advantages of clinker are especially evident when compared with porcelain stoneware. Despite its popularity, the wrong side of porcelain stoneware has a smooth texture, so when laying to glue, it sticks much worse. The structured surface of the mounting base of the clinker product promotes high adhesion with the adhesive. And finally, considering the characteristics of the clinker facing material, its environmental safety should be emphasized.

Types of formats

The range of clinker products for laying steps in terms of the choice of texture or color palette is small. But the exquisite appearance of the stairs is provided by a perfect structural basis and a variety of formats, among which are:

  • Steps: ordinary, with a notch, angular, with a Florentine profile.
  • Plinth: ordinary, angular, figured, under steps.
  • There are also balcony linings and a profiled plinth with an angle.

All parts are produced in various options, both tonal and geometric. Therefore, the task of laying stairs with tiles, even with a complex design, becomes feasible. Separate elements of clinker products do not have significant functional significance, but they are highly decorative and allow you to show creative inclinations in the design of steps.

Technological process

The technology of laying clinker tiles on steps requires a reliable surface made of concrete, stone or brick.

Surface preparation

Due to the rigid base of the clinker products, the surface of the steps under the cladding should not be subjected to deformation under mechanical stress, humidity fluctuations or temperature changes. Therefore, it is possible to carry out the laying correctly only on a solid foundation. Reinforced concrete is the leader in terms of reliability. You can start the installation process after the following conditions are met:

  • The surface of the steps will be cleaned of foreign deposits, debris and dirt using a drill with a special nozzle or a metal brush.
  • All existing irregularities were corrected with a cement-sand mortar.
  • Before laying, it is necessary to waterproof the surface of the steps.

markup

The technology of facing stairs with tiles contains many facets, including:

  • observance of the horizontal plane;
  • the formation of even seams;
  • exposure of the same step height.

The last condition is not always feasible due to the initially irregular shape of the draft structure. In this case, the task of the master is to visually achieve the same size of steps after laying the clinker tiles. When marking, it is necessary to strive for the integrity of the plates in width and length. Trimming along the edges often does not look aesthetically pleasing, therefore, they resort to a slight shortening of the central elements to ensure the integrity of the poles. Steps on the street often have sidewalls, so vertical laying will be inevitable.

Important ! According to the laying technology, when marking the steps, the direction of the lines on the mounting surface of the clinker parts should be monitored.

They should not be perpendicular to each other. This will prevent the formation of cracks in the seam areas.

Laying

Before starting laying, you should decide what composition will be fixed. In addition to glue, you can use a solution of cement and sand in a ratio of 1: 4. For these purposes, sand is selected, the fraction of which does not exceed 7 mm, otherwise insufficient adhesion will provoke the risk of detachment of the clinker tiles from the steps. A mixture of ready-made glue is more reliable; Ceresit CM12 is excellent for these purposes. The proposed adhesive is produced specifically for clinker products, but is also suitable for ceramics with porcelain stoneware. The only exception is marble. Dilute the adhesive in the proportions indicated on the manufacturer's packaging.

Laying technology has different options: some tilers start from the top step, others from the bottom level. Regardless of the method chosen, the process includes the following steps:

  • It is right to start the first stage with the beacon laying of a horizontal row. This will set the plane and determine the thickness of the seams.
  • Further, the laying of steps goes exclusively with horizontal tiles.
  • After the glue has hardened, they move on to facing the risers.

Attention ! When making steps on the street, the protruding part of the tile is not glued. This will protect the clinker lining from damage during deformation of the base surface.

Finishing stairs located on the street involves the use of special frost-resistant glue.

Grout

The width of the joints varies depending on the type of clinker material. From the point of view of technical characteristics and aesthetic appearance, it is correct to form a thickness of 4-5 mm, however, the allowable size is 10 mm.

For grouting between the seam gaps on the steps, a spatula made of rubber or metal is suitable. A metal tool should be selected narrow, according to the width of the gaps after laying the tiles. It is necessary to work with a semi-dry mixture, you can check the desired consistency by squeezing it in your palm - the grout should not crumble.

The topic of the article is “facade decoration with clinker tiles”. This building material is very popular today. On the market, it is represented by a huge variety of sizes, shapes, decorative filling. Those who have already encountered clinker know well why it is so popular. Therefore, in the article we will talk about clinker tiles, about its technical and operational characteristics, about the advantages of this material and its disadvantages, as well as about how it finishes the facades of buildings and structures.

What is clinker tiles

We must immediately make a reservation that this is ordinary ceramics. That is, molded clay, which is fired at a temperature of + 1200-1400C. It is firing that gives the finishing material increased strength and high waterproofing qualities. In addition, clinker tiles have other characteristics, they are its advantages:

    she is easily tolerates quite serious temperature fluctuations;

    this is frost-resistant material;

    Sun rays do not affect for finishing the house, that is facade will always be in its original state, especially decorative walls;

    such a lining inert to influence chemically active substances;

    material environmentally clean;

    huge assortment color decoration, plus diversity proposed invoices that will satisfy even the most demanding consumer;

    lifetime - at least 100 years.

As for the disadvantages, there are only two of them:

    Clinker tiles - enough material fragile. When it falls, it just splits, therefore, when carrying out finishing work, it is necessary work carefully.

    Price finishing material not the most cheap, of course, in comparison with other facade finishing technologies.

Source zen.yandex.ru

And one more thing that can be attributed to the benefits. This is a small thickness of the lining, and, accordingly, a small weight of finished products. That is why there is no need to build an additional base for the clinker finish. That is, clinker tiles do not load either the walls of the house or its foundation.

A consumer survey revealed that the main reason for popularity is the similarity of clinker tiles with brick finishes. But tiles have one advantage over bricks - they can be used to veneer any facades built from any building materials. What can you say about a brick. In addition, clinker is a great choice in color design. Here, the colorful palette is diverse, and manufacturers have practically no restrictions.

The small thickness of the finish, and accordingly the weight, does not create loads on the walls and foundation of the house Source builderonline.com

As for the texture, these are smooth bricks, and with a rough surface, and with a relief with the addition of inclusions from other building materials. There are even tiles that are made with shiny additives. The most important thing when choosing is to understand that sometimes the appearance of a tile in a store is completely different when it is lined with a wall at home. And this must be taken into account. That is why many sellers and experts recommend using the services of professional designers who have experience working with clinker tiles on the facades of houses.

And one more thing, which was mentioned above. This is a high price of the product. The production process of this building material is associated with such a rather energy-intensive procedure as firing. Therefore, clinker tiles are not cheap. And, if you are offered an inexpensive material on the market, then for sure it was manufactured with violations of the technological cycle. There is no other explanation.

Technology of laying clinker tiles

In principle, the technology for facing facades of clinker tiles is standard. That is, it is exactly the same as, for example, facing with bricks or ceramic tiles. But, as always, the first moment to start finishing is to make an accurate calculation of the required amount of material. And since the outer walls of the house are not only their planes, but also the corners of the building, it is necessary to calculate the required number of both ordinary, so to speak, ordinary tiles, and corner elements.

The former are calculated from the calculation of the area of the walls to be lined, the latter - the lengths of the corners of the house. For the first, you will have to multiply the length of the walls by their height. And for the second, only the height is required. After that, in the first case, the area of \u200b\u200bone tile is determined. And then the total area of \u200b\u200bthe walls is divided by its area. In the second case, the total value of all the lengths of the corners is divided by the width of the corner element.

Surface preparation for tiles

The wall surface on which it is planned to lay the clinker tiles must be solid, dry and with a slight difference in plane. Therefore, the optimal wall is plastered or concrete. If a wooden house or a frame house sheathed with plywood or OSB boards is chosen for decoration, then plaster mesh will have to be stuffed on the walls, which will serve as a reinforcing frame for future decoration.

To fix the tiles to the wall, a standard adhesive is used, which is used for facing with bricks or tiles. There are other technologies that use special metal brackets.

Today, in the age of total economy, one has to take into account the thermal insulation qualities of the finish. Therefore, often a heat-insulating layer is laid under the clinker tiles, more often panels made of expanded polystyrene. They are attached to the walls with special dowel-nails made of plastic. This fastener is often referred to as a dowel. After laying the insulation, the plaster mesh is stretched. It can be steel or synthetic. And already from above they carry out the installation of clinker material.

Rules and nuances of facing

First of all, the perimeter of window and door openings is lined. Then, starting from the first lower row, the planes of the walls are filled. Immediately mount the corner trim elements. It is very important - it is impossible to carry out laying at the same time in several rows. Usually five or six rows is fine. If their number is exceeded, then the upper ones can crush the lower ones with their mass.

    adhesive solution gotta cook in advance on the required volume masonry;

    usually clinker tiles fits on the walls with gaps between elements, so it is important to choose the right grout;

    width gaps - no more than 1.5 cm;

    it is forbidden fill seam to the front surface of the finishing material, it is necessary leave small deepening in 3 mm for grouts;

    adhesive solution applied to the wall notched trowel, as well as on the back side of the tile ordinary;

    ideal if the wall before styling tiles mark out;

    conduct lining on a rainy day weather Not recommended;

    if necessary undercut finishing material, it is better to do grinder with diamond cutting disc.

Innovative technologies

Today, in the age of new technologies and the latest building materials, clinker tile manufacturers offer a completely unique variety of it, which is called thermal panels. This is the tile itself, which is glued to the heat-insulating material, and specifically to the polystyrene foam boards. The latter are cut specifically to the dimensions of several tiles in the form of panels, which, when connected to each other, form an airtight layer on the wall without seams and cracks.

We offer you to see how thermal panels are installed on the front wall of a private house:

It may seem that there is nothing complicated. But despite the seeming simplicity, this is, in fact, a difficult process. The thing is that before starting the finishing, the surface of the wall must be well leveled, because large differences cannot be covered with this material. It turns out that the main process will be precisely the alignment of the wall.

Recently, another type of proposed finishing material has appeared on the market. It is three-layer, that is, clinker tiles glued to a polystyrene foam panel. But the latter is attached to the OSB plate. It can be added that in this way manufacturers began to solve the problem of increasing the strength of the base. But not only that. This type of thermal panels makes it possible to clad the facades of houses in the so-called "dry" way. That is, with installation on the frame (crate). For example, the photo below shows how the facade walls of a house made of timber are trimmed with thermal panels.

Thus, it became possible to finish the facades of houses built not only from bricks, blocks or concrete. And this is another aspect of the uniqueness of the clinker tiles glued to the insulation panel. In fact, a ventilated facade is assembled on the wall. In addition, it is possible to increase the thermal insulation characteristics of the cladding if an additional layer of thermal insulation material is laid under the thermal panels and the frame. They usually do that.

The technology of a ventilated facade using thermal panels is recommended when the surfaces of the facade walls have large differences in plane. Because the frame can smooth out any unevenness.

The advantages of thermal panels include the following:

    Beautiful appearance with a huge variety of decorative designs.

    Life time not less than the clinker tile itself.

    Small specific the weight, which does not create a load on the walls and foundation of the house.

    The use of thermal panels is lining facade, and warming houses outside.

    Conduct mounting processes can Anytime of the year.

    Simplicity service.

    The presence of not only ordinary panels, but also corner, which makes it possible to one hundred percent finish of the cladding.

And this is due to the excellent characteristics of this material. In addition, who wants to get a high quality facade finish with a long service life, he chooses clinker cladding.

- this is a finishing ceramic material, which, when properly installed, is able not only to provide a beautiful and high-quality coating, but to design an original design that fits perfectly into the overall interior of the building. It is successfully used in the decoration of the facade of the house, steps, terraces, balconies, pools, and even in the design of complex architectural solutions.

Clinker is produced by double firing, which affects the characteristics of the coating. The tiles are fired in tunnel kilns at high (over 1200 degrees) temperatures, which makes it possible to ensure the strength of the material, a resistant surface to any kind of impact.

Most often, clinker tiles are used in the design of the facade of the house and as a floor. Laying tiles is not particularly difficult. Nevertheless, in the process of installation work, some nuances should be taken into account that will make the walls of the house much stronger and give them a noble look.

  • wide range of colors (more than 100 shades).

Important! Clinker laying is a collection of puzzles. During the installation process, it is important that all the elements fit perfectly together.

Preparatory work

Before you go shopping, it is important to correctly determine the required number of items. For facade cladding, it is recommended to use corner and flat tiles. In this case, the number of corner tiles is calculated in square meters. m., while flat - in linear. Therefore, the length of the working surface must first be multiplied by the height, as a result of which the area can be obtained. In the process of counting, windows, doors and openings are excluded.

Installation work with clinker can be carried out on such types of coatings as stone, wood or concrete. Before the laying process, the work surface must be perfectly cleaned of dirt, possible oil stains and bulges.

Advice! The prepared work surface must be completely dry.
