About a third of his life a person spends in a dream. It is necessary that sleep be healthy and full, and for this the spine must occupy the correct position in sleep. Thus, one of the important components comfortable sleep is the correct pillow. How to choose a pillow for sleeping? Several criteria must be taken into account, the main ones being filler and size.

Which pillow to choose for sleeping

Depending on the type of filler, pillows are divided into two large groups:

Synthetic types of filler:

  • . Pros - low cost, ease of care (can be washed in washing machine). Cons - quickly falls off and the pillow loses its shape.
  • . This is siliconized fiber in the form of fluffy balls. The advantages are the same as those of the synthetic winterizer - cheapness and ease of care, but there are no disadvantages of the synthetic winterizer - due to the springiness of the fibers, the pillow retains its original shape for a long time.
  • . This is a synthetic pillow filler, the closest in its properties to natural fluff. Elastic, durable, can be washed at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees. Of the relative disadvantages - a pillow with this filler is harsh.
  • Silicone. The basis is siliconized polyester fiber. The silicone pillow is inexpensive, lightweight, resilient, and can withstand frequent washing. The longer you beat, the thicker and taller it becomes. Minus - accumulates static electricity.

So, general benefits and disadvantages for all types of synthetic filler:

Pros:

  • hypoallergenicity;
  • low cost;
  • ease of care;
  • wear resistance;
  • hygroscopicity;
  • breathability;
  • odorless and does not absorb odors.

Minuses:

  • too soft;
  • synthetic fill usually creaks slightly.
Natural. Among the natural fillers of pillows, there is even more diversity, they are divided into two subgroups depending on their origin - animal or vegetable.

Fillers of animal origin

  • Feather . Traditional natural filler, depending on the ratio, feather and down-feather. The feather of waterfowl is mainly used. Pros - retains its shape very well, absorbs moisture, retains heat. Cons - the complexity of care - once a season, the pillow requires cleaning and drying of the filler, which is difficult at home.
  • Wool . Sheep and camel wool is usually used. Pros - has medicinal properties, hygroscopicity, air permeability. Minus - has a persistent smell, can not be washed, requires dry cleaning. Poor-quality wool quickly falls off and loses its shape.
  • Horsehair . Hair from the mane and tail of horses is used. The horsehair pillow is very elastic, absorbs moisture well. Minus - rigidity.

So, the general advantages of these fillers:

  • environmental friendliness;
  • therapeutic effect;
  • hygroscopicity.

Minuses:

  • can cause allergies both the materials themselves and chemical substances, which are used in the dry cleaning of pillows;
  • Difficult to care for, requires dry cleaning.

Fillers of vegetable origin

  • Latex. Made from the resin of the rubber tree. Latex is mainly used for orthopedic pillows. Choose this type of sleep - get rid of neck pain. Pluses - hypoallergenicity, elasticity, durability. Can be washed. Cons - high price.
  • Seaweed. Hypoallergenic, hygroscopic, antibacterial - the undoubted advantages of a pillow filled with algae. Cons - too soft and afraid of thorough cleaning.
  • Buckwheat husk. Hypoallergenic, has a specific massage effect. Cons - rustling, not long term services. , judging by the reviews, you need to get used to it and follow the rules of use.
  • Silk. Natural silk is used. This filler is soft, elastic, hypoallergenic, of the minuses - a high price.
  • Bamboo. hypoallergenic, durable, retains its shape and has a beneficial effect on the skin. Of the relative disadvantages - tough.

So, how to choose a pillow to sleep on fill?

It should be remembered that good pillow:

  • Does not cause allergies. And allergic reactions can be on the filler itself, on the waste products of dust mites, which can start in some fillers, as well as on substances used in dry cleaning. Therefore, the filler should be hypoallergenic, have antibacterial properties, ideally should not be afraid of frequent washing;
  • It has good hygroscopicity (capable of absorbing moisture);
  • Odorless and does not absorb odors;
  • Keeps its shape, the filler is evenly distributed inside the pillow.

About this feature: like size

Standard pillow sizes are 70x70, 70x50, 50x50, 40x40. Some manufacturers also indicate the height (thickness).

What size pillow is best for sleeping on?

When choosing, you must be guided by:

  1. Anthropometric features of a person who will sleep on a pillow. Tall and broad-shouldered pillows need a wide and high pillow, on a flat small one it will be uncomfortable. The height of the pillow should not exceed the width of the shoulder (usually about 14-15 cm)
  2. The size of the available bedding sets, namely pillowcases.
  3. Bed width. The length of the pillow (or pillows, if we are talking about a matrimonial bed) should not exceed the width of the mattress

There are individual physiological characteristics. For example, do not recommend sleeping on a low pillow for those who snore in their sleep for those who suffer from high blood pressure. High pillow is contraindicated people with some diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

Particular attention is required to choose the right pillow for people with osteochondrosis. Signs of the wrong product:

  1. Headaches in the morning.
  2. Vertigo of unknown etiology.
  3. Rapid fatigue and drowsiness.
  4. Sometimes: increased blood pressure.
  5. Reduced concentration.

The position in which a person is used to sleeping is important. Yes, people those who prefer to sleep on their backs need a pillow lower than sleeping on the side, those who prefer sleeping on the stomach - very low.

Babies under one year old don't need a pillow at all., preschoolers - low (6-8 cm high maximum).

Moreover, in addition to traditional form rectangle and square, there are pillows in the form of a roller, L-shaped and U shape different sizes- from small for the neck, to large, for the whole body.

The choice of a pillow is not an easy task, it must be approached with all responsibility, taking into account individual characteristics After all, the quality of sleep directly affects the well-being and state of health.

The choice of a pillow is a very crucial moment, which few people attach due importance to.

It is known that not only the comfort of sleep, but also health depends on the quality and shape of the pillow, so such a purchase must be taken very seriously.

How to choose the right pillow for sleeping: what to look for ^

Many do not attach importance to the choice of a pillow, considering it to be a simple rectangle of matter that is used for sleeping. In fact, everything is not so simple: there are certain types of pillows that affect health.

For example, this includes orthopedic pillows used for osteochondrosis and scoliosis: they slow down or completely stop the development of diseases, and the next morning after sleep, their back does not hurt, which is important for those who are faced with such diseases.

What threatens the wrong choice of pillow

If the next morning after waking up, there is discomfort and pain in the neck, lower back or upper spine, the wrong pillow is probably to blame. If you continue to sleep on it, the most various diseases due to an uncomfortable position of the back or neck: osteochondrosis, scoliosis, and in some cases even joint diseases, because during sleep on the side, the main pressure is exerted on them.

To maintain your health in a normal way, when buying a pillow, it is important to pay attention to several important details:

  • The size: it should be such that during sleep the head does not slip off it. The best option- slightly more than the width of the shoulders;
  • Height: it should be medium. If it is too low, it can lead to the development of cervical osteochondrosis and kyphosis. High pillows are also undesirable: because of them, the back may hurt in the morning, because. at night the spine assumes an unnatural position;

  • Rigidity: as with the height, it should be medium. If the pillow is too soft, then the spine will simply sink into it, resulting in a possible curvature of the cervical spine over time. If it is very rigid, the same thing happens to the vertebrae, in addition, the cervical muscles are stretched;
  • Filler pillows: it is desirable that it be natural. Feather pillows are not recommended for asthmatics and allergy sufferers, and synthetic winterizers are perfect for hypotensive patients.

It is worth noting that a pillow can affect not only health, but also the condition of the skin: if you sleep on too soft, blood circulation worsens at night, which leads to premature aging and wilting of the epidermis.

  • The price of the product varies depending on the material, size and additional features, because there are pillows with a "memory" effect, special shapes or fillers to improve sleep.
  • On average, the cost of one pillow is at least 2,000 rubles, but it will be made with high quality and will last for many years.

Pillows with polyester fibers

Such pillows began to be produced in the 1930s. based on synthetic winterizer, but now you can find materials derived from it. They will be better in quality, and holofiber, ecofiber, comforter can be used as a filler, and they all have common advantages and disadvantages:

  • pros: hypoallergenic, odorless, not prone to dust accumulation, quickly evaporate accumulated moisture on the surface without absorbing it; easy to care for, their price is low;
  • Minuses: not suitable for people with orthopedic diseases, can provoke pain in the neck, have low thermoregulation, can change shape when washed, short service life - no more than 3 years.

Feather pillows: harm and benefit

This is a classic version, made from down and feathers of ducks and geese, less often - swans:

  • pros: high ability to thermoregulate, quickly evaporate and absorb moisture, easily restore their previous shape after sleep, long service life - more than 5 years;
  • Minuses: Bed bugs and mites can start in them if the appropriate processing was not carried out during the manufacture. Also, when using low-quality filler, a smell may come from the pillow, and quality options characterized by high cost.

Pillows with camel or sheep hair

Such products are less common than the above, but people suffering from headaches prefer to buy them:

  • pros: they support the neck and spine well, have a high degree of thermoregulation, are inexpensive, help to cope with migraine and joint diseases;
  • Minuses: short service life, because in just a few months, wool can simply fall off; dust mites can start in them, and they can only be washed by hand.

Buckwheat husk pillow: benefits and harms

Pillows made of buckwheat filler have the following qualities:

  • pros: have a light massage effect, environmentally friendly, have high breathability and orthopedic properties;
  • Minuses: noise, weight (about 2.5 kg), short service life.

Shape retention pillows

Such pillows, under the influence of the temperature of the human body, retain its contours, and after waking up they return to their previous shape:

  • pros: high orthopedic properties, help get rid of neck pain, silent, uninteresting for ticks, easy to care for;
  • Minuses: poor thermoregulation, rigidity, short service life, high cost.

In order to choose the right pillow, you should pay attention not only to its material and filler, but also to your own wishes: if there are diseases of the neck or spine, then it should also be of a suitable shape and quality.

Now it is hard to imagine that not so long ago a feather pillow had no competitors and was considered the best. But the achievements of modern progress have touched all areas human life, not disregarding the main attributes of sleep. The variety of pillows with different fillers can confuse unprepared buyers. Let's try to figure out which filler is better to buy pillows.

Feathers and down

They have the ability to pass air, regulate heat transfer and absorb moisture. It is believed that the best filling is goose and duck down, as it provides the greatest comfort.

Disadvantages: not suitable for people prone to allergies. Dust mites, harmful microorganisms or fungi can breed in a down pillow. Even thorough drying and washing does not guarantee them. total annihilation. In addition, after five years, pillows with this filler become unusable due to the destruction of the feather. And a high-quality down pillow is far from cheap.

Sheep or camel hair

They have good hygroscopicity, moisture resistance and thermal conductivity. They are breathable, very healthy and equally comfortable in winter and summer.

Disadvantages: can cause allergies, require dry cleaning. Also, such a pillow can quickly lose its shape (fell) if it is filled with low-quality wool.

Silk

Disadvantages: high price.

natural latex

They have a filler made of foamed resin of hevea - a tree growing in the tropics. This filler has the ability to adapt to the shape of the body, providing complete comfort during sleep. Natural latex does not lose its elasticity and softness, and therefore.

Disadvantages: high price.

Vegetable fillers

Vegetable pillow fillers are very diverse. Most often it is buckwheat husk, corn fiber, hop cones, herbs, rice shell and bamboo fiber. The main advantages of such fillers are the effect of aromatherapy and massage, as well as the ability to pass air well.

Now quite popular and. The massaging action of the buckwheat pillow helps to improve blood circulation and tone the muscles. Bamboo fiber has a cooling effect, regulates humidity well, is antibacterial and hypoallergenic. Bamboo pillows are machine washable.

Disadvantages: all plant-filled pillows, with the exception of bamboo pillows, are characterized by the ability to produce rustling and relative rigidity. In addition, they require special care(dry cleaning and disinfection) and serve only 2 years.

Despite environmental friendliness, pillows with natural filler are not suitable for everyone, because:

Synthetic fillers

Synthetic fillers are more durable, affordable and have many other advantages.

Sintepon

The cheapest and most popular filler. It's durable hypoallergenic, does not have and does not retain smell, pillows can be washed in a typewriter.

Disadvantages: the ability to stray, form lumps and lose its original shape.

Comfortel

Represents balls from soft synthetic fiber. The filler passes air well, does not cause allergies and retains the appearance of the pillow after washing.

Perhaps the only significant disadvantage is its "unnaturalness".

holofiber

It is polyester treated with silicone. It is an artificial substitute for fluff, combines all the advantages of this natural filler, but does not cause allergic reactions.

A small minus of holofiber is that it is not lush and soft enough.

Silicone

Gives pillows splendor and volume, perfectly retains its shape and combines all the advantages good filler pillows.

One small flaw- the ability of silicone to accumulate static electricity.

In order to sleep on the chosen pillow was comfortable, you need to consider the following:

  1. How softer mattress, the less voluminous the pillow should be.
  2. Those who prefer to sleep on their side need a firmer pillow, those who like to sleep on their stomach need a soft one, and if their favorite position is on their back, they should choose the middle option.
  3. The height of the pillow should fit the width of the shoulders of the one who will sleep on it.
  4. It is important that the cover is made of breathable but dense fabric so that the filler cannot come out.
  5. If you notice that you often put your hand under the pillow, it means that it is low for you.
  6. If your shoulders feel numb in the morning or your neck hurts, it's likely that a pillow isn't right for you.

And finally: what is the use of an orthopedic pillow

A regular pillow has the shape of a rectangle or square and the average size is 50 by 70 cm. But there are also orthopedic pillows that help relieve tension from the muscles of the neck and relax the cervical spine. This pillow differs from the usual one in that it has a special cushion for the neck and a recess for the head. According to doctors, an orthopedic pillow is the prevention of diseases of the spine. But before buying such a product, you need to make sure that it suits you.

It is advisable to try to lie down on it in order to understand whether its shape, height and rigidity suit you. Sleeping on it at first will not be very comfortable, but if it suits you according to all the parameters described above, you can quickly get used to it.

A prerequisite for good health and well-being is a complete night sleep. And for good rest we need to create the appropriate conditions. it Fresh air, muffled light, silence and a soft cozy bed.

The perfect pillow

In order to make the place of our sleep the most cozy and comfortable, we should take care of the right accessories. And first of all, about choosing a decent pillow, because it is she who helps to maintain the neck and head in the correct position, which allows us to wake up cheerful and rested.

Is it necessary at all or can it be dispensed with?

There is an opinion that the most useful sleep is sleep without a pillow. The spine is in an absolutely even position, which is the prevention of all possible curvatures. However, to date it has been proven that this is not the case and the statement is a big mistake. During sleep on a flat surface, the cervical vertebrae are in tension, so the body cannot relax and rest. This may subsequently lead to various problems such as headaches, neck and shoulder pain, curvature of the spine and others.

What should be kept in mind when choosing a pillow?

The main condition when choosing a pillow is its support not only for the head, neck, but also for the shoulders of the sleeper. It is this position that will help you wake up cheerful, cheerful and avoid the development of diseases.

The shape, size and stiffness of the main bedroom accessory should be selected taking into account the basic sleeping position, physique and your preferences.

It is possible to highlight some general points requiring special attention.

  • The standard pillow size for sleeping is 50 x 70 cm.
  • If you prefer to sleep on your side, then opt for higher pillows. This option will help you provide proper neck support and avoid neck bending.
  • If you spend most of your sleep on your back or stomach, then your right choice- flat cushion
  • If you are the owner wide shoulders, then you should take a look at wide pillows. They will help compensate for the bending of the vertebrae.
  • The ideal pillow height is considered equal to the width of the shoulder.

What size are the standard pillows?

Now on the market there are many options with non-standard sizes. Popular in Soviet times, large square pillows, standard sizes which are 70 by 70 cm, are already a thing of the past. When making your choice, chasing originality will be a mistake. For example, unusual round and oval options are far from the most convenient and practical. Stop your attention on square and rectangular shapes pillows. The standard sizes of the main bedroom accessories are 40-80 cm wide and 30-50 cm long. Pillows square shape more often they are 50 by 50 cm or 40 by 40. For example, Americans believe that perfect size pillows for quality rest are 50 by 70 cm.

Orthopedic models

In addition to the usual options, there are also standard sizes on the market that do not differ from the usual ones. They also have a variety of shapes and functions. For example, an ergonomic pillow has a special recess for the head, which helps reduce the likelihood of developing osteochondrosis; a pillow that has the shape of a roller helps to reduce the load on the cervical vertebrae. Fillers are used natural (such as, for example, latex, bamboo and some others) or new proven synthetic options. Many of them have the effect of remembering your head and neck position, so they support them well throughout the night. Orthopedic pillows, whose standard dimensions are 50 by 70 cm, outwardly do not differ much from the usual ones. However, it is their properties that can sometimes cause bad sleep because of the unusualness, and they are recommended, as a rule, for people who already have any medical problems.

The firmness of the sleeping pillow

Your favorite sleeping position will help you determine the level of rigidity of the main bedroom accessory. If you prefer to sleep on your side, then a hard pillow is your option. It will keep the neck and head in the correct position and help to avoid numbness. If you choose to sleep on your back, then you will like a pillow of medium firmness. Well, if you spend the whole night on your stomach, then a soft option will suit you.

Fillers

You can find it on store shelves a large number of filler options. They can be divided into three groups:

1. Synthetic fillers. Among them are:

  • Sintepon. Highly economical option. Excellent washability, lightweight and does not cause allergies. However, this filler does not hold its shape well, the pillow quickly becomes very thin, and lumps can appear in it. She won't be able to serve you for long.
  • Comfortel. It is a filler in the form of soft silicone balls. It is easy to wash, light and hypoallergenic, while, unlike synthetic winterizer, it keeps its original shape well.
  • Holofiber. By its properties, it resembles fluff and is the best substitute for it. It tolerates machine washing, but the water temperature should not exceed 40 degrees. Non-allergenic. Suitable for lovers soft pillows. However, excessive softness is also a minus of holofiber. In order to avoid excessive softness, this synthetic filler is often mixed with other types.
  • Silicone. Very versatile and popular filler, as it has big list positive qualities: hypoallergenic, convenient and practical to care for, perfectly washable and does not lose shape, well breathable. Its only disadvantage is the ability to electrify.
  • Memorix. An excellent filler with a lot of pleasant properties. Memorix does not cause allergies, is well breathable and does not absorb moisture and odors, it takes the shape of your head and neck, which contributes to proper support and even distribution of the load. Its only downside is the price.

Thus, we can highlight the following disadvantages of artificial fillers: softness, not all keep their shape well, some creak a little.

Advantages of artificial fillers: reasonable price, good air permeability, easy care, do not absorb odor and moisture, do not cause allergies.

2. Natural fillers of animal origin. Among them are:

  • Down and feather. There are pillows containing only feather, only down or a mixture (feather and down). Many of us have been accustomed to this type of filler since childhood, and it has its advantages. For example, down and feathers warm well and keep their shape perfectly. However, such a filler is difficult to care for, as it easily absorbs moisture and requires periodic drying. In addition, feathers and down can cause allergies, as they are an excellent environment for the habitat and reproduction of the tick.
  • Wool. In such pillows, as a rule, the wool of sheep or camel is used. The option is rather for an amateur, since one can single out a therapeutic effect and breathability from the pluses. Whereas wool has enough disadvantages: it has a specific smell, which will not suit everyone, requires special care (it cannot be washed, you will have to give pillows for cleaning to a specialized salon), and can cause allergies.
  • Horsehair. It absorbs moisture well and keeps its shape, but such pillows are quite hard.

Thus, the advantages of animal fillers are: the ability to pass air well, absorb moisture, and cure some problems.

Cons of fillers: often a specific smell, the possibility of developing allergies, difficulties in care.

3. Natural fillers plant origin.

  • Latex. filler, not allergic, which perfectly holds its shape, is machine washable and can serve you for a long time. It is mainly preferred by manufacturers of orthopedic products. The only downside is the price.
  • Seaweed. These pillows are well breathable and absorb moisture, do not cause allergies, but you may have difficulty cleaning and processing it.
  • Buckwheat. Therapeutic filler, therefore, has both pluses and minuses. Such a pillow helps to improve blood circulation and relieve clamps and swelling, however, the husk rustles and requires special care. This filler will not be able to serve you for a long time.
  • Silk. These pillows are very light, elastic and keep their shape well, let air through and do not cause allergies. The only downside is the price.
  • Bamboo. This type of filler is becoming more and more popular among consumers. It is easy to care for, does not cause allergies, keeps its shape perfectly, prevents the growth of bacteria and will be able to please you. for a long time. The only caveat - some may find it harsh.

Thus, the advantages of natural fillers of plant origin are: hypoallergenicity, breathability, possible therapeutic effect.

Cons: not all keep their shape well and can last a long time.

Pillows for children

This is a separate category of pillows. And you need to approach their choice with special care. There is a huge selection of pillows on the shelves of stores. various forms and sizes. Do not chase originality, it is better to focus on time-tested options. The standard pillow is 40 by 60 cm. The height of the child's pillow should correspond to half the width of the baby's shoulder. When choosing a pillow for your child, you need to consider that it should be:

  • hypoalogenous;
  • well pass air and absorb moisture;
  • keep in shape;
  • be elastic;
  • light;
  • easy to care for.

Decorative pillows

They have long been an integral element of the interior. They help to relax, create mood and comfort. Their sizes and shapes are very diverse. For example, the standard size is 40 by 40 cm. On store shelves you can find pillows in the form of squares, rectangles, rollers, round shapes and many others.

A sleeping place implies the obligatory presence of several pillows for sleeping, everything else is just an element of decor. Additionally, you can pick up a few decorative pillows, for example, in the color of wallpaper or bedspreads, slightly changing their tone. Standard dimensions are 40 by 40 cm. However, creating your own space, you can experiment, create.

Pillow cases

To choose bed sheets need not only for color scheme, but also focusing on its size. So, the standard sizes of pillowcases for pillows are 70 by 70 cm (Russian models), while choosing the European version of the pillow, do not forget to choose the appropriate set of linen.

Organizing and decorating your bedroom is very important process, an integral part of which is the right choice of pillows. Be careful when buying, and your sleep will be sound and waking up pleasant.

Glad to meet you on the blog pages))

I, like most women, really like to buy different goods for the home. And this time we will talk about pillows, which you have to update and buy more often.

I will share information about the pillows that I have already used and know their advantages and disadvantages well, maybe this will help you when deciding which pillows are better to buy, I will give reviews of several types in the article.

It is clear that the basis of the bases of the pillow is the filler, it depends on how comfortable we will sleep. And for a comfortable sleep, you need to solve the main question which pillow is better to choose, what material filler meets the requirements of “useful and convenient”?

I'll start with the most popular pillows of yesteryear, gradually pushed back by bedding filled with new materials.

Previously, feather pillows simply had no competitors. Everyone, regardless of wealth and social status, slept on the same pillows - down and feathers. True, those who lived in the countryside and had the opportunity to pluck chickens and geese in large quantities could only afford down pillows, without an admixture of feathers, however, these could still be bought for a fairly decent amount.

“Testing” feather pillows for many years, I studied all their advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages

Natural filler, delivers pleasant tactile sensations.

Durable. Previously, they were inherited not only to daughters, but also to granddaughters 😉 With proper care it will easily serve you for five, six (ten ...)))

Warm, soft and fluffy.

Have high breathability

Flaws

Allergenic. Moreover, the allergen is not the fluff itself, but the microscopic mites that love to live in it.

According to the manufacturers, even if you are allergic among modern down-feather pillows, you can find an option for yourself - the pillows are filled with decontaminated down, to which a cover is added from a special fabric through which not only the filler, but also the mites living in it, cannot break through.

It is almost impossible to wash it yourself, so you need to periodically take it to dry cleaning, and you will have to do this quite often (most recommendations come down to a figure - once every six months). Once upon a time I tried to wash the feather on my own, it was, to put it mildly, terrible ...))

If you sweat a lot in your sleep, the feather begins to acquire an unpleasant odor.

Having put on a pillow not a very high-quality pillowcase, you will constantly see downy fluffs flying around the apartment, and prickly tips of feathers will peek through the fabric.

For me personally, the fact that the pillow is not quite “anatomical” is also a disadvantage, if there is a lot of down-feather in it, it becomes springy and too elastic, if part of the filler is removed, by morning it “creeps” from under the head, located in the corners.

Since for me the shortcomings of these pillows clearly prevail, I would not buy it again, perhaps, making an exception only for those who produce their products in accordance with new technologies, with varying degrees support and filler processing.

Such pillows have only one minus - the price, a quality pillow and the cost will be “quality”))

The price of a regular feather pillow is about $15.

My subjective assessment: 4/4.

Pillows filled with synthetic down

Such pillows were bought instead of down and feather pillows, but what about, mites do not live in synthetics;)

I have already bought several types of pillows with synthetic fillers, some of them were not bad, but since I don’t remember what specific filler they used, I’ll write about the one I know well - synthetic down.

Advantages

- Cheap. Therefore, these pillows can be changed frequently.

As I already wrote - there are no harmful microorganisms, hypoallergenic.

Easy to care for, you can wash it yourself at home in a washing machine.

Keep in mind that the temperature during washing synthetic fibers should not be higher than 40 degrees, they are afraid high temperature, losing its springiness from it.

Flaws

Synthetics, it is synthetics, well, what it is made of ... of course.

Loses shape quickly. If at once it was pleasure - soft and at the same time springy, then after a while the “pleasure” turned into a lot of “slides” and “hills”, especially after several washes ...

It is not hygroscopic, which, again, is a whole problem for those who sweat at night.

Conclusion: I won’t buy home anymore, but where such pillows will definitely be good is in the country. They are light, washable without problems, dry quickly, do not absorb dampness and odors.

Price: about $4.

My subjective assessment: 4/4.

Another option is bamboo pillows.

Here it must be borne in mind that 100% bamboo fiber filler in pillows, unfortunately, does not happen. If artificial filler is not mixed with bamboo, it will not hold its shape.

Most often, bamboo filler is mixed with a highly siliconized fiber called "Swan Down". But despite this mixture, "conditionally" bamboo pillows turned out to be the best I've tried.

Bamboo pillows pros and cons

pros

Hypoallergenic.

They have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

Well pass air and absorb moisture.

Can be washed in a washing machine.

Have long term services.

According to the manufacturer, they contain honey pectin, which has a beneficial effect on the skin.

Minuses

Everything is bad here, or rather, on the contrary, it’s good - there are no cons for bamboo products, well, practically absent) Searching the Internet for the shortcomings of these pillows did not help, by the way, I already wrote about this when I told. The only cons I could find were:

– Pillows should not be used where there is constant high humidity air. High ability bamboo fiber to absorb moisture in this case becomes a disadvantage.

What was the disadvantage for me in bamboo pillows? Perhaps only their increased elasticity, even though they are slightly crumpled over time, still remain quite high. Therefore, if you prefer pillows that you practically "fall through", then it's better not to buy bamboo ones.

Bamboo pillow care

Washable even at 60 degrees. It is better to wash in the "delicate wash" mode and liquid detergent, and it is worth adding it in small quantities, and then rinse well, otherwise the fibers will stick together and clumped.

It does not interfere with fluffing pillows periodically to prevent caking.

What else I would like to say, choose a pillow carefully, the manufacturer is different from the manufacturer, and even one company may have pillows of different quality in the same line.

I bought bamboo pillows twice, and when I bought them for the first time, I was disappointed that these pillows did not give the expected comfort. As part of the filler bamboo and "swan's down", manufacturer Lucy, Russia, Ivanovo.

The filler turned out to be wonderful to the touch - smooth, delicate and soft, from the "swan" after all :) It seemed to me that the manufacturer packed it in the wrong case, in too hard, not conveying the delicate properties of down.

But after a while, when I saw pillows in the store that I liked in terms of quality, I was surprised to read on the label that they are also bamboo.

These pillows are produced by the Mona Lisa brand, Russia, Kursk, a very famous brand that produces not only bedding, but also ".

The first days, lying on this pillow, I felt like a princess and a pea so high and it was not very comfortable, but in just a few days the pillow “crumpled” and began to flawlessly take the desired shape. I've been sleeping on it for quite some time and still love it.

What I didn’t like is that the percentage composition of bamboo and synthetic filler is not indicated on the labels of both pillows, it simply says “Composition of the filler: bamboo fiber, PE” I had to try to guess the amount natural material by experience.

How to determine if there is bamboo in the composition or if the pillow is completely filled with "swan's down". See how the filler will behave when burned. Bamboo fiber burns completely rather than melting, produces a light gray ash, and smells like burnt paper.

I tested all the pillows in the apartment except for the feather pillow, everything is clear with it - a natural product;)

This is what happened as a result - everyone melted)) (pillow filler "Mona Lisa" on the left, Lucy in the middle, sintepukh on the right).

Sintepukh behaved as it should be for artificial material - it melted instantly. The photo shows how it is not elastic and lumpy.

The filler from the Lucy bamboo pillow, which I bought first, also seemed very synthetic both in the way of charring and in the smell.

You can see what a gentle composition of swan fluff.

The filler from my favorite pillow melted somehow differently, and the color was much lighter, and the smell was the most natural - it really smelled like burnt paper.

According to the results of such testing, I again liked the filler in the Mona Lisa pillows the most.

Price: depends on the amount of bamboo filler, on average $10-20.

My subjective assessment: 4/5.

Sweet dreams on comfortable pillows 🙂

Update from 20.02.2016. Changed my assessment of the bamboo pillow from the article. As it turned out pillow pillows strife. Even containing the same filler, they are completely different from each other in terms of appearance, by tactile sensations and in operation. Now I’m trying pillows from Sovinson with different fillers: unusual ones filled with buckwheat husks, again bamboo, but from a different manufacturer, which turned out to be completely different from those described in the article, and filled with camel wool, which I “test” with particular interest because, as they wrote in the comments to the article about migraine, they help with this type of headache. In my opinion, the quality of the filler, its kind of naturalness and pleasant tactile sensations are felt even through the pillowcase :) In the very near future it will be, do not forget to look at the blog)))
